The Mayans were among the most advanced civilizations of the ancient world, and they have left behind many mysteries that continue to puzzle archeologists to this day.

One of the most mysterious and intriguing aspects of their culture is the sacred art of the Jaguar. It’s found in rock carvings throughout Central America, Mexico, as well as in some parts of South America. Some of these images are thousands of years old, yet no one knows why they were made or what they mean. However, there are a few things that we do know about them.

Towards the end of the Mayan era, from about 600 A.D. to 900 A.D., there was an explosion of artworks featuring the jaguar deity. During this time period in particular, Mayan art became more symbolic and abstract than ever before. Rather than simply depicting real-life scenes, artists began to express their society’s philosophy through artwork and rituals. The Jaguar was a symbol of power and strength, and Mayans believed that by worshipping it they would be rewarded with success on the battlefield and in fertility ceremonies involving women and crops.*

Jaguar is the most iconic rock art of all time. In fact, we have no other choice but to agree with this statement. There are hundreds if not thousands of images and petroglyphs that depict Jaguars in their various forms and sizes.

The image above shows a beautiful Jaguar rock art that has been carved with great perfection and precision on the stone surface. The artist who created this outstanding piece of work must have had some very good knowledge about the anatomy of Jaguars because it looks very realistic.

It depicts an upright Jaguar with an open mouth and visible teeth. It looks angry and fierce and ready to attack or defend itself against any other creature or human being. In the background, we can see two smaller Jaguars that seem to be looking at the bigger one from behind a tree.

It looks like they are waiting for their leader to give them some kind of signal or command so that they can start attacking their enemy or prey together but in different directions.

This amazing artwork is a symbol for power which is why it was placed on the wall of an ancient temple in Mexico where it still remains today. It also represents strength, leadership, courage and bravery. The smaller Jaguar figures are believed to be subservient to the larger one, just like how

They are guardians of the rainforest and are often used to symbolize an animal that is near extinction in the area. Many jaguar art images were drawn by shamans or priests in ceremonies where animals such as birds, frogs, and snakes were used as mediums through which spirits would enter into a Shaman’s body allowing him to commune with the gods and other spirits. These special ceremonies took place at rockshelters or caves where Jaguars also lived.

Jaguar Art is arguably the most iconic and important rock art of all time.

The jaguar has been depicted in rock art by many cultures throughout the world. In South America, it is one of the most represented animals, along with man and the peccary (also known as javelina). The artistic renditions of the jaguar vary greatly from culture to culture, yet we can make some generalizations about the artwork based on its location or style.

There are three main styles of Jaguar rock art: realistic, naturalistic, and symbolic. Each style tells a different story about the jaguar.

Realistic style Jaguar art is realistic in appearance, although they are not always true representations; rather, they only show one or two aspects of what a jaguar actually looks like. The visual qualities are essential to this style of artwork – color, shape, composition, and so on. This type of art can be found throughout Central and South America. Naturalistic style Jaguar art is also realistic in appearance but more closely resembles a real jaguar than realistic style artwork does. In the central mountains of Mexico, there is a region called the Pachuca-Zaragoza Valley that has been home to humans for at least 6,000 years. In this valley, there is a rock formation called El Cielo that has been painted and carved with representations of jaguars. These representations are so numerous and so different from one another that they form an iconography unique in all the world.

I have been a photographer for more than 10 years, and I have always had an interest in ancient cultures and the mysteries of the past. Recently, I had the opportunity to go to Central Mexico with a group from the Foundation for Shamanic Studies to see the ancient rock art in the Sierra Madre Mountains.

This was my first time experiencing anything like this. It’s difficult to describe in words what it was like being there and walking through these ancient sites. I can say that it was truly amazing! The most amazing thing about these rock carvings is that they are at least 1,000 years old. This means that many of them are at least 500 years older than the pyramids at Giza.

We were told by our guide that a lot of what we were seeing had not been seen by people in hundreds if not thousands of years. Some of these images were on rocks that you could only get to with ropes and climbing gear! Many times we also saw some amazing cloud formations while there, and each time we got to one of those places when it happened, there was a feeling of something special happening…it really felt like this land was alive.

The rock art at the cave of Chauvet-Pont-d’Arc in southern France is the most ancient known to civilization. Discovered on December 18, 1994, it has become a symbol for our universal human heritage. The animals depicted were painted by hand using natural mineral pigments, red ochre and black manganese.

The magnificent paintings are approximately 30,000 years old. The cave was discovered by Jean-Marie Chauvet, Eliette Brunel Deschamps and Christian Hillaire.
