The Concept of Dreamspace
Dreamspace is an exhibition that invites viewers to explore their own subconscious mind. Whitney Tates’ artwork is designed to spark introspection and self-discovery, encouraging individuals to uncover their own inner truths. The exhibition is not just a showcase of art, but a journey into the depths of one’s own psyche.
The Artistic Process
Whitney Tates’ artistic process is deeply personal and intuitive. She draws inspiration from her own dreams, emotions, and experiences. Each piece is a reflection of her inner world, and she invites viewers to do the same. Tates’ artwork is not just a representation of her own subconscious, but a gateway to the viewer’s own inner space. The exhibition features a range of mediums, including painting, drawing, and mixed media. Tates’ use of color and texture creates a dreamlike atmosphere, drawing the viewer into the world of the subconscious.
The Concept of Inhabiting Spaces
The exhibition at Tates and Bossier Arts Council delves into the idea of inhabiting spaces, both physical and mental. It explores the tension between the tangible and intangible, the concrete and the ephemeral. This concept is central to the exhibition, and it is approached from various angles.
Is there a link between the subconscious and artistic creativity? “I think so, a lot of my ideas come to me like either before I’m falling asleep or from a dream,” says Tates. “A lot of my ideas do come to me when I am laying in bed trying to fall asleep. I’m not much of a sketcher, but I will write down words and feelings. And, so, that’s how my pieces come to life. As an artist, Tates’ goal has always been to help individuals understand and navigate through life while stimulating discussions on mental health matters. “I do a lot of portraitures and explore like a lot of mental health topics, but not things that are like blatantly, ‘this is what this painting is about’. Like, it’s more a feeling, and when people see the work they can identify with certain components of a piece. So, I like to put layers of meaning in my work that I’m not necessarily telling you how to feel,” Tate explains.
They believe that the imagery should be meaningful and not just visually appealing. This approach allows them to create art that is not only visually striking but also thought-provoking and emotionally resonant.
The Significance of Symbolism in Art
Symbolism is a powerful tool in art, allowing artists to convey complex ideas and emotions through subtle yet powerful imagery. In the case of Whitney Tates, their use of symbolism is a deliberate choice that adds depth and meaning to their work. By considering the meaning of imagery before using it, Tates is able to create art that is not only visually striking but also thought-provoking and emotionally resonant.

The Early Years of Tates’ Creative Journey
Tates’ journey into music began when he was a teenager. He started playing the guitar and quickly fell in love with the instrument.

The Art of Whitney Tates: A Journey of Self-Discovery
Whitney Tates’ artistic journey began with a strong foundation in traditional art techniques. The artist’s early work was heavily influenced by the surrealist movement, which emphasizes the subconscious and the world of dreams. However, as Tates continued to develop their craft, they began to explore new styles and themes that reflected their own unique perspective.
Exploring the Subconscious
Tates’ art often delves into the realm of the subconscious, where the boundaries between reality and fantasy blur. This is reflected in their use of vibrant colors, distorted forms, and unconventional materials.
They bonded over their shared passion for sustainability and art. This chance encounter led to a collaboration that would change the art world forever.
The Birth of ArkLaTex Artisty
In 2015, Brittney Hazelton and Whitney Tates, two artists with a shared vision, decided to join forces and create a unique art collective. They founded ArkLaTex Artisty, a name that reflects their Southern roots and artistic style. The duo’s mission was to create art that not only showcased their individual talents but also promoted sustainability and environmental awareness.
Early Success and Growth
ArkLaTex Artisty’s early success was largely due to their innovative approach to art. They began by creating art pieces using recycled materials, such as plastic bottles and cardboard tubes. This eco-friendly approach not only reduced waste but also raised awareness about the importance of sustainability.
