Rock Art is a blog about Rock Art Jewelry, but it’s also about what inspires the art. First, though, to answer the obvious question: Rock Art is unique nature inspired jewelry. We use real stone and gemstones to create beautiful jewelry that has been worn by people throughout the ages.
We’re a family owned and operated business located just outside of Washington DC in Northern Virginia. Our team is made up of three generations with over 100 years combined experience in lapidary (stone cutting) and jewelry making. We’ve been doing this a long time and we take pride in our work and strive to produce the highest quality products possible.
We have an amazing collection of high quality gemstones in store. Among our more popular offerings are gorgeous red garnets, tiger eye, quartz crystal and amethyst. We carry natural stone jewelry for men, women and children as well as lots of fun gift items like animal carvings and bookends. In addition to our natural stones we also carry synthetic moissanite, which is a lab-created substitute for diamonds that has become increasingly popular due to its durability, fire and brilliance without the associated costs or ethical concerns often attributed to diamond mining.*
We are always looking for new materials to incorporate into our designs so if

Rock Art is a unique jewelry line that combines the ancient art of rock art with today’s culture. With its roots in Africa, the ancient practice has become a way to show pride and self-expression.
Tawny Allen, owner and founder of Rock Art Jewelry, is a self-described history geek who not only appreciates the art, but also its meaning behind it.
“I’m a lover of history and culture,” says Allen, who worked in retail fashion for 15 years as a jewelry buyer. “Rock Art was my way to express myself through my love for both.”
Allen’s fascination with rock art began when, at an African festival some years ago, she saw necklaces made from polished rocks with symbols etched into them. At first she thought they were very expensive imported rocks, but eventually she realized they were just rocks from around her home state of Texas. She then began to make her own rock art necklaces at home using various sizes and textures of stones.
Tawny started selling her jewelry on eBay just last year and soon found out that people all over the world were interested in buying her creations for themselves or for their loved ones. She has since expanded her business to include bracelets and earrings made from leather and
Rock art has been a major part of human culture for thousands of years. The most famous rock art is found in the desert regions of Australia, Africa, and North America. However, there have been examples of rock art that have been discovered in other parts of the world as well, such as Asia and Europe.
Tribes who were once nomadic peoples would often create rock art at locations that they would camp at during their travels. They may have created it to commemorate a place where they had a great victory or a significant loss, or they might have done it as part of a ceremony or ritual that was performed by the tribe.
Rock art is an example of how humans are able to use their imaginations to create things that are beautiful and thought provoking in nature. It gives us an understanding into what was happening with different cultures while they were creating the art.
Rock art is also considered to be sacred art because many tribes feel that the images that are carved out into stone are imbued with the spirits of their ancestors or the gods themselves. This makes it even more precious to them and helps them understand where some of their beliefs originated from. As time went on, modern society became more aware of this ancient art form which led to a rise in interest for items
People have been making rock art for more than 30,000 years. The earliest known examples are in south-Western France and northern Spain. At the time these were created, Europe was covered with ice sheets. These early painters were hunter gatherers who lived in small family groups. Rock art is found in many parts of the world, from Australia to Africa and North America. There are two main forms of rock art: rock engraving, where a design is carved into the rock and rock painting where a design is painted onto the rock surface using mineral and vegetable pigments.
Rock art is essentially a dialogue between the artist and their natural environment. An artists’ understanding of their surroundings provides the inspiration for their artwork, while the act of producing it provides them with a sense of knowledge and power over their environment.
The discovery of an example of such art in a given area may provide archaeologists with evidence that will help them to date other sites in that region. Rock art can be an important part of a culture’s history because it often indicates how they viewed themselves as well as how they viewed their surroundings. As such, it can tell us much about past beliefs and lifestyles as well as broader patterns of human behaviour.
Rock art is one of the oldest forms of human communication. In fact, rock art is the only form of communication that has survived for thousands of years and can be seen in different parts of the world. Rock art is a very accessible form of art and can be appreciated by anyone from any background.
Rock Art is not restricted to the ancient civilizations or tribes, it also exists in contemporary society. The rock art made by modern man is as important as its ancient counterpart. Rock Art is found all over the world, but there are specific places where it dominates. Rock Art is found in Australia, Japan, Africa and North America. Although some rock art has been discovered in Europe such as those found in Gibraltar, France and Italy, they are less common than those mentioned above.
One of the most popular places where rock art is found is Australia particularly around the western region which includes places like Lake Eyre, Kakadu National Park and Arnhem Land. A prominent Australian aboriginal artist known as Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri was born at Haasts Bluff in Central Australia on March 28th 1935. His traditional name was Pintupi Tjukurrpa while his Western name was given to him by an anthropologist who worked with him named
