I’ve always wanted to tell the history of the Christmas tree as I know it, and this seems like a great opportunity.

I’m an amateur historian (and amateur artist) interested in all aspects of art, especially those that have been forgotten or overshadowed by more recent movements. This includes traditional art forms like decorative painting and the craftsmanship involved in making fine furniture.

The first recorded use of a “Christmas tree” was in Germany in 1521, when Martin Luther set up a decorated fir tree as a Christmas decoration in his home. He wanted to recreate the “Beauty and the Beast” scene from the story of St. Nicholas, where a man sacrificed his life to save others.

Trees have been used as symbols since ancient times, but they were often tied to gods. The Greeks and Romans put their gods on top of trees. The Norsemen believed that the gods lived in tall trees like the ash, so they made sacrifices under them.

Trees also symbolized rebirth, as people were resurrected after death. This is why grave sites often had trees nearby, or why some cultures buried their dead under trees.

In Christianity, trees are connected with Jesus’ death and resurrection because of what happened at the place called Golgotha (which means “the place of the skull”). Many people believe that Jesus was crucified on a tree there, although he was actually crucified on a cross made out of two pieces
