The inaugural Art Week Riyadh (6–13 April) will include presentations from more than 45 local, regional and international galleries. The non-commercial event is ‘an opportunity to bring together the many layers of Saudi Arabia’s art scene’ and ‘shape the future of art in the region’ The main exhibition is titled At The Edge, which will be on display from 6 to 13 April in Riyadh. The event is organised by the Visual Arts Commission, part of the Ministry of Culture.

Experimental Film and Video Art in the Middle East

The exhibition will feature eight single-channel artworks that showcase a range of experimental film and video art practices in the Middle East. These artworks will be presented in a variety of formats, including 16mm film, digital video, and interactive installations.

  • Abeer Al Masri, who will be showcasing her experimental short films that explore themes of identity and belonging.
  • Ali Al Qasimi, who will be presenting his interactive installations that use video and sound to create immersive experiences.
  • Amal Al Qasimi, who will be exhibiting her experimental video art that explores themes of social justice and human rights.
    Exploring Complex Narratives
  • The exhibition will also explore complex personal, cultural, and social narratives through the use of moving image.
