Stock Images are not cheap, but they are rather convenient. You can buy hundreds of different styles, poses and versions of an image that you need. It’s fast and easy to get ahold of these images. And that is what most businesses take advantage of.

But there is a problem with using stock images, which is why many companies actually don’t use them: they bore the customer.

For example, on the Splash Art Blog, we did a post on why you shouldn’t use stock images when promoting your business. Here is what we had to say about it:

“The bottom line is that when customers see someone else’s photo, they think about what your company must be like? The phrase “Stock Photo Model Syndrome” was coined for this very reason. Customers instantly imagine your company to be just like every other company who uses stock photos. Not only does this make your company seem boring, it also makes you look lazy and unoriginal.”

When you use stock images in your advertising, you risk making your business look unoriginal and boring. If you want to keep people engaged, it might be better to skip the generic imagery and instead have real people model for your ads.*

Whether you are a writer, a marketer or an artist, the need for quality images is real. You can’t just use your family pictures to promote your business; you need professional quality photographs. But when it comes to photos, stock images don’t work well for your business. For a lot of small business owners and entrepreneurs, the idea of visual branding can be scary. It’s a large investment of both time and money that many people feel ill-equipped to take on. For these reasons, many companies turn to stock images for their marketing. And in many cases it’s a good choice. But when it comes to small business graphics, you really should carefully consider why you’re using the image you’re using.

When you use stock art, you are taking something that is meant for everyone and turning it into an image that is meant just for you. It speaks directly to your customers in your voice rather than a generic voice. You can make it specific to your industry or even your company culture. If done right, it will give your audience the feeling that they are getting something special by doing business with you.

And if you do use stock art, there’s no need to feel bad about it! Just make sure that if you are going to go to the trouble of creating your own graphics, you do them well. There are plenty of ways to create beautiful images without paying a designer thousands of dollars per month (we talk more about how in our blog post on how to create amazing imagery

What are stock images? If you’ve ever used a website like shutterstock or istockphoto to upload images for your website, blog or article, then you’ve used stock images.

What are the main reasons not to use stock images on your website? Each of the following points will be explained further in this post, but here’s a quick overview:

I don’t know what it is about stock art, but it rarely seems to work. Maybe when you’re starting out, and you’re just trying to get your name out there, using a stock image might be the right way to go. If you’re looking for a more personal touch though, I can’t recommend using stock art enough.

Even if you have a great collection of images, the truth is that they probably aren’t applicable to what you do.

For example, if you are in the fitness industry and you have a picture of a woman doing crunches or a guy lifting weights as your header, chances are good that it isn’t going to attract people who want to work with you.

But luckily for us, there are plenty of places online where we can get royalty free images for free (or cheap) that are completely applicable to our business!

Here are some great resources:

Life of Pix – This was my first stop when I wanted royalty free images for my blog. They have thousands of beautiful pictures that cost $1 each. You can even pay $10 per month and download up to 500 photos each month! Canva – I use this site all the

Stock images are not just the cheapest way to go. They are also really bad for your business.

Stock images are cheap because they are recycled over and over again.

When you use a stock image, you’re telling everyone that your product/service is just like all the others out there.

You’re saying that your business isn’t special or unique, just like the other businesses using stock images.

That’s a terrible message to send to customers! Why wouldn’t they buy from your competitor?
