The Vibrant Colors of Spring: A Unique Artistic Collaboration

First Street Arts, formerly HQ Gallery, has been a hub for artistic expression, offering a diverse range of art forms to captivate the senses. The current show, “Primaveral Bloom,” brings together the abstract works of Ebba Navas and the photography of Dan Suzio, creating a stunning visual experience that showcases the beauty of spring.

The concept of spring is beautifully woven throughout the exhibition, with Navas’ abstract pieces and Suzio’s nature photography capturing the essence of the season. The juxtaposition of these two art forms may seem unexpected, but as Navas herself notes, “I don’t want it to seem like we did that on purpose. We draw names out of a hat.” This serendipitous pairing has resulted in a unique and captivating collaboration that invites viewers to appreciate the beauty of spring in different ways.

Suzio’s nature photography, which depicts animals and their young, provides a powerful and evocative representation of the season. Navas, on the other hand, creates abstract pieces that evoke the feeling of spring through the use of pinks, greens, and pastels. As Navas explains, “It’s a lot to do with Mother Nature coming out of her slumber for the winter and just awakening with all the beautiful colors of spring.”

The abstract pieces on display, including “Lacy Morning” and “Lacy Afternoon,” showcase Navas’ recent work in abstract collage. These pieces, titled for their color palettes, feature intricate lace work and demonstrate Navas’ ability to create complex, layered compositions.

Navas has been a part of First Street Arts in downtown Benicia for about six years, and has always been drawn to the gallery’s creative energy. “It’s a really cool little gallery,” she says. “I love the community and the support of the artists and the staff.” As she continues to develop her artistic voice, Navas is excited to share her work with a wider audience.

As the show comes to a close, Navas will be available to answer questions about her art and share her inspiration with visitors at this Saturday’s reception. She enjoys the opportunity to connect with her audience and share her passion for art.

For Navas, creating art is a labor of love that requires vulnerability and honesty. As she notes, “This is who I am.” Her art is a reflection of her personality, and she is excited to share it with others.

Upcoming Projects

  • Summer of art fairs
  • Expansion of artistic output to include abstract landscapes

As Navas looks to the future, she is hard at work preparing for a summer of art fairs and expanding her artistic output to include abstract landscapes. Her work is currently divided into two sections, abstract and abstract landscapes, and she notes that fans of one tend to be drawn to the other. “I have those two things, and either people are drawn really really to the one or really really to the other,” she says.

With her passion for art and her commitment to creative expression, Ebba Navas is sure to continue to inspire and captivate audiences with her unique and vibrant art.
