Hi, my name is Yong-Seok Kim and I am a self-taught artist. I am writing this blog to share my inspiration, experience and knowledge of the art world with you.

I have been working on a huge picture since 2008. It’s called “The Evolution of the Piece”. The main idea of this project was to create one huge picture that consists of many pieces, which also means many small works of art that evolve into one big piece.

I started working on this series in 2008 as a way of learning more about myself as an artist and exploring the process of making art. It all starts with an idea, then goes through research and development and ends up as a finished product that is ready for the art market. Each piece in this series is unique and has its own story.

This is an art blog about how pieces evolve, grow and develop with every part of the creative process. I will also talk about my influences, influences I want to use for future work and some tips and tricks about how I do what I do.

The first post will start off with an idea or a thought behind the specific piece I have in mind, then it will go into detail about the idea(s) behind it. After that there will be more posts to show the progress of the actual creation of the piece (the sketches, layers, colours and so on), trying to get as close to real-time as possible. Then there will be some extra posts that tie in with the main theme but are not specifically related to that specific piece (for example: what influences me or tips & tricks).

Art prints are a great way to display your favorite quotes and images. Whether it is a famous art piece or just an inspirational quote, there is a lot of power behind the written word. These pieces are particularly great for displaying in your home but also work well in commercial settings as well.

T-shirts were once very popular for displaying art pieces. However, you could only choose from the limited number of designs that were offered by the designer. This limited people who wanted to wear the shirts because they did not necessarily want to support one artist over another. Now, with the advent of art prints, people can wear the images that they love from all kinds of artists without having to worry about which one is on the shirt!

The following information is going to be a little technical, and I apologize for that.

But if you are interested in the process of making this piece, and especially if you are considering commissioning a similar piece, then I think it will be helpful.

This piece started with an idea to make a print that looked like stained glass. I did some initial sketches and then experimented with different techniques for the “stained glass” effect. I first tried cutting out shapes of the design from black card stock and gluing them on to a white background. That was interesting but not quite what I wanted. Then I tried scoring lines in the paper with a blade and then tearing the paper along those lines to create stained glass shapes. That worked better, but there were still problems trying to get the torn shapes to look right, so I abandoned that approach.

I decided to work on making the “stained glass” using layers of different colored paper instead of using actual stained glass pieces. Every time I made a change to an earlier layer of paper, it caused problems with the shape of the piece. It is hard to cut more intricate shapes out of colored paper because if you do too much scoring or folding it weakens the paper and causes it break apart when you try to cut it
