Art Deco design is an amazing design style that combines geometric shapes and patterns with a style. This art deco style was popular during the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s. The art deco design is inspired by the works of French artist, Hector Guimard. He had designed the famous Paris Metro entrances in 1900 and they were marked with colorful geometric shapes.

Art Deco design later spread to different parts of the world like Germany, England and America. It became a popular interior style for buildings, furniture, glass and metalwork. The influence of art deco furniture and designs can be seen even now in modern designs. There are many websites which give information on the Art Deco design elements and others where you can get ideas on designs inspired by this beautiful art deco style.

The popularity of this interior style declined after World War II but it never became extinct. Art Deco inspired designs became popular again in late 1990s when they were used in hotel lobbies, restaurants and other places of entertainment.*

There is a lot of inspiration related to Art Deco Design. The designs were never forgotten and are still beautiful now.

It was an artistic movement which originated in France, in 1925, but soon spread to other Western countries such as Great Britain and Germany. In particular, it is popular nowadays because of its influence on contemporary styles such as Hollywood Regency or Shabby Chic.* Decorative pieces usually feature geometric shapes like circles or triangles, with large contrasts between light and dark areas creating dramatic effects. Some common features can be seen in furniture and jewelry made during that period:

It displays classic elements of Art Deco architecture such as zigzag lines, stepped forms and caryatids.*

The style also held a fascination for non-French people as well, such as Bruno Taut who designed a couple of major structures in Germany using the style.

Art deco is known for its linear designs and structured fashion. Women wore long dresses with geometric shapes and men wore long jackets with simple geometric lines drawn on them. However, some clothing pieces defied these norms and had more rounded designs instead. Although the clothing was mostly linear, the jewelry was usually round or oval due to the influence of African arts and crafts. The other notable aspect of art deco design was its use of fabrics such as silk to make unique patterns and textures.*

Tattoo artists today can take inspiration from this incredibly popular style by incorporating it into their tattoos.
