The subject of this blog is the uses of wooden sculptures as landscaping elements. I have been in the art business for over two decades. I have run a gallery in Seattle, a sculpture foundry in Kentucky and been a freelance artist for many years. Landscape Sculptures in Wood is my way of sharing my love of sculpture with gardeners and other collectors who want to landscape with sculpture.
Trees are essential to life on earth as we know it today. Trees provide us with oxygen and sequester carbon dioxide from the air, which provides a natural cooling affect for our planet. Trees can be used to create privacy, shade, windbreaks or as living sculptures or focal points in any garden, creating an awareness and appreciation of nature.
Wooden Tree Sculptures are becoming very popular in garden settings, because they are completely natural creations and will never fade or rot. They can be created using hand tools and live stakes planted directly into the ground or they can be attached to large bases made out of metal or concrete. Some conservationists believe that trees placed directly into the ground live longer than ones that are attached to bases, but I have found this not to always be true as root systems need room to grow as well as anchor themselves into the soil so that
The inspiration for this blog came from my wife, who is a landscape designer. Her work involves using various elements to create outdoor living spaces. She has found that many of the elements, such as wooden sculptures, can be very cost effective if they are purchased in bulk.
For landscaping, wooden sculptures are versatile, durable, and beautiful. They are also inexpensive and easy to install. The sculptures can fit into almost any garden or yard. They can be placed on an existing patio or deck, or they can stand alone in a corner of the yard.
Trees are often used in landscape design to provide shade and wind protection, but there are many other options for landscaping with trees. One of the best ways is to use wood carvings of trees in the landscape. These carvings add a natural touch to any garden or yard because they look like real trees and can be used in many of the same ways as regular trees.*
I’m a sculptor that specializes in wooden sculptures. My main focus is the abstract form of the sculpture, I have been inspired by the natural world of plants and trees for many years.
As an artist I like to create three dimensional art works that stimulate my imagination and touch my soul, giving me pleasure when I look at them and hopefully others as well.
I feel that there is a certain power in wood and metal sculptures that comes from the process of creation. The work is another place where man can challenge himself to overcome his fears, to face new obstacles, to gain self-confidence, strength, knowledge and experience.
After working for many years in advertising, public relations and the movie industry, I decided to follow my heart and passion and open my own studio. From the beginning of this new adventure I have been able to realize different projects such as commercial art, custom sculptural furniture, landscape sculptures in wood and more recently bronze sculptures.
Landscape art is a very important but often overlooked part of a garden or outdoor living area. When used properly landscape art can create an interesting conversation piece or focal point in your outdoor living area. We specialize in outdoor wood sculptures, but have been finding ways to integrate these pieces into gardens for years.
If you are looking for garden art that will be able to stand up to the elements without needing additional care and upkeep then wood is the perfect material. Wooden sculptures have been used in gardens for centuries, originally as functional pieces that helped work the land. With time they evolved into decorations for gardens, but also continued functioning as tools for keeping livestock contained and helping build and maintain walls and fences.
Most modern garden art is made from other materials including stone, concrete, metal, fiberglass and plastic; however these materials are not built to last outside. They need special care such as regular painting or sealing and need to be kept out of the elements to remain protected from fading or cracking due to freezing or extreme heat. A great deal of thought and effort goes into creating durable garden art that can remain attractive while enduring all four seasons of New England weather, but many people still choose wooden options because they know they can rely on natural stability and beauty year after year.*
Landscape art and wooden sculptures are wonderful. They are a unique way to create and amaze.
Landscapes should always be incorporated with the landscape design, not just added on top of the design. For example, creating sculptures that are part of the landscape such as boulders, wood structures, water fountains, stones and more.
These pieces should have a natural flow to them and not seem out of place or random. These pieces can be used in a variety of ways from being used as focal points in an area, to accentuating a specific section within an area, or even directing the eye to look at a specific spot.
Trees are another good source for landscaping art pieces. Trees can be made into sculptures using different types of materials to enhance it’s beauty in your landscape area. Some of these materials include metal (iron), glass, stone and more.
Landscape art, like any form of art, has been used as a medium to express ourselves, our emotions and sentiments. They are the focal point of each landscape design. Landscape art can be in various materials and forms. Wood sculptures have been considered as one of the most attractive choices in decorating a landscape or garden.
Landscaping is a big part of home improvement. It involves creating a space that is functional, aesthetically pleasing and harmonious with its environment. Landscaping provides enjoyment and relaxation for people who live in the house as well as for their guests. A carefully planned and designed landscaping will enhance the value of your home.
Landscaping is not only about beautification but it also has several other benefits like reduction in noise pollution, rainfall runoff control, wildlife habitat protection, better air quality and healthier soil condition among others.
Landscaping helps us conserve our natural resources by using recycled materials and by planting indigenous plants which require less water and maintenance. Sustainable landscaping uses eco-friendly methods that do not harm or negatively impact the environment.*
Landscape art is a form of sculpture that uses natural and man-made elements to create an artful display in the landscape. It can be used to enhance existing landscapes, or as an addition to new landscaping projects. In both cases it aims to please the eye and draw attention to a specific area of a garden, yard, or public space.
Trees, shrubs, plants and other living elements are often incorporated into the design of landscape sculptures. They are usually arranged in a more-or-less random fashion in order to create realistic effects that resemble naturally growing plants.
The purpose of using landscape art is twofold. The first goal is to create areas in which people can enjoy the outdoors as much as possible. This involves making areas that appeal to all five senses: sight, sound, touch, smell and taste. The second goal is to improve aesthetics throughout an entire yard or neighborhood.
