Being an excellent artist takes an immense amount of hard work, dedication and talent. If you wish to become a well-known artist, there are certain things you must do in order to succeed. Being an excellent artist is not as easy as picking up a paintbrush and starting to paint.
TIP! 1: Are you interested in art?
If you want to be an excellent artist, you must have a passion for creating art. Art is all about the passion of the individual artist who creates it. Without this drive and dedication, you will find that it is difficult to succeed in your business.
Consider several pieces of art that you like and then consider why they appeal to you. Why did they capture your interest and imagination? Do they inspire you? Do they make you proud or angry? Do they make you sad or happy? Do they make you feel uncomfortable? When confronted with a piece of art that causes any one of those feelings, your reaction is honest—it’s personal. It’s because the images are speaking to something inside of you that makes the images resonate with your soul. That’s what good art does; it should move the viewer in some way. You can’t fake this kind of personal connection to others through your work; it has to
If you are an aspiring artist that is looking to become excellent, in your art, then here are some tips to help you reach that goal.
1) Study the masters of painting and sculpture
2) Practice drawing and sketching everyday
3) Take classes on art history
4) Take art classes at a college or university
5) Find someone who is an excellent painter or sculptor and ask for one-on-one classes. (if you can’t find someone then try to find videos on youtube.)
6) Learn how to paint with oils, acrylics, watercolors, pastels, charcoal and any other medium you want to learn.
7) Study anatomy. Study the human form in detail. Learn how to draw the human face, hands and body by studying anatomy books or by taking a life drawing class or by taking a figure drawing class (where you sketch the nude human form).
8) Study composition/design. Here are some good books on composition: “Artful Composition” by Andrew Loomis; “Design for Artists” by John Frederick Walker; “Composition” by John W. Moyer; “The Natural Way to Draw” by Kimon Nicolaides; “Design” by Paul Rand; ”
Art dealers are businesspeople. They have to be able to make a quick decision on whether a piece of art is genuine and they have to be able to judge the worth of that piece and they have to be able to sell it for as much money as possible.
These skills are not developed over night, nor can you just decide one day that you want to become a great art dealer. It takes years of practice and determination. If you want to become an art dealer, here are some guidelines and traits that will help you along the way:
Always Be Honest
The most important thing when dealing with art is honesty. If a piece is not authentic, do not try and pass it off as such. Your reputation as an honest art dealer will be important throughout your career.
While Setting Up Your Business
Ask yourself what kind of art you want to deal in. Do you have a special interest in any particular style? Or maybe you prefer working with ceramics or paintings instead of drawings or collages? When you’re trying to decide what kind of art you want to specialize in, think about your interests and passions.”
Here are some hints to become a great artist.
1. Study the Masters
The art world is like the fashion industry: it is all about who you know. You need to study your great masters, but you should also try to get to know them personally. It is not just a matter of networking, but also of understanding their vision and being moved by their work. You will learn a lot from them as they have both technical and emotional mastery.
2. Practice
You need discipline to hone your craft; you need to practice every day. Don’t be afraid of mistakes, because with each you will learn more about yourself and art in general. Yours is not an easy job, so make sure that your passion for art becomes your true vocation and the only thing you do from day to day.
3. Be different
Break free from the pack, stand out from the rest: think outside the box (pun intended). Be inspired by others’ works but don’t imitate them, create your own style that no one else has ever seen before.
4. Dedication
Don’t quit before reaching success; keep going! It might take time for people to notice your talent, but if you persevere you will have your share of glory!
Being an artist is not as easy as it seems. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to achieve. All successful artists have one thing in common: they are great at what they do, and have worked very hard to get where they are.
You have to have the talent. That’s a given. And you must have the passion for art. Without that, you won’t be happy as an artist.
But there are other factors to consider:
1) The business side of art is not easy. You need to know how to deal with galleries, collectors and other artists. This requires knowledge about pricing, promotion and networking as well as a good understanding of the market and what sells in it.
As much as art may be inspired by emotions, selling it requires a great deal of research and intellect. You need to be willing to learn the business if you hope to make a living at it.
2) If you want to be successful, you’ll have to hire help. Even if you were a self-starter and did everything yourself, that would only account for one part of your job as an artist: creating art. There are many other things that require your attention: accounting, payroll, inventory management and so forth. It’s simply not possible for one person to do so much work in one lifetime; even if you could manage it, you’d never sleep! You’ll need help with these tasks if you hope to become successful in the long run.
3) Be prepared for the long
Before you begin creating art, it’s important to get a few things in order. First, make sure that you’re creating for the right reasons. If you want to make art just for money – and if it’s possible, there are easier ways to get rich – then stop reading now. You’ll only be disappointed.
