I’ve always been the kind of person who imagined a genius method of getting more closet space. It’s not that I didn’t want to use the space I had–it’s just that there was never enough space for all of my clothes, shoes, and other stuff.
In high school, I used to keep all my clothes in plastic garbage bags. It was ugly, but really functional. There was no way I would give up any of my precious square feet to store old papers or anything else that could be stored elsewhere.
The problem is that I have a lot of books and papers and things. And when you’re trying to build your own closet storage system out of cardboard boxes and old bed sheets, you don’t have any extra room for bedding or papers or anything else.
After the previous owners left, I found myself with the problem of getting more closet space. I had to get it from somewhere, so I decided to focus on the attic. The attic was a mess and a lot of cleaning was needed before anything would be done to it.
One thing that stood out to me was how much room there really is in an attic, but how much space was wasted. I’m talking about the area between the ceiling and the roof. This wasted space is usually filled with insulation or studs. There’s no need for this and it’s just taking up valuable room that could be used for something else. Over time I plan to remove everything that is not necessary and use that extra square footage for storage.
