Bonta Wedding is owned by artist and entrepreneur Van Bonta who has been creating unique artistic designs since 1993. His work is internationally recognized, with pieces gracing the walls of celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez, Jada Pinkett Smith, Queen Latifah, Snoop Dogg and more.
What began as an artistic hobby became a career when Bonta discovered that his creations were in demand at celebrity events. His business has grown ever since. “It’s always been my goal to share my art with people,” says Van Bonta. “And today I am able to do this on a larger scale.”
The key to Bonta’s work is the way she weaves paint or dye into paper or cloth. She uses a brush and a fine-tipped pen. After the dyes are applied, she sometimes hand-dyes the paper or cloth to give it texture, sometimes she uses stencils and sometimes she applies dye using a brayer (which is kind of like a rubber roller).
The result is a process called batik, which is one of the most ancient forms of fabric printing in the world. It was brought to Indonesia by Chinese traders, so Indonesian batik is Chinese in origin.
Bonta chose Indonesian batik for her work because it uses all natural dyes, which she wanted to avoid in her line of work because they are often toxic.
She said that although her art has been called folk art, it’s not exactly true. She said folk art tends to be representational in nature and tends to have no color variation. Her work is representational but the variations in color and use of materials sets it apart from traditional folk art.

It was a pretty big day for Terri Bonta, owner of Terrible Love Designs. On May 20th, she hosted her first solo art show at the Arts Center of Cannon Beach (ACCB). The show, titled “To the Sea”, drew large crowds and positive reviews from visitors and other local artists.
Terese’s colorful paintings have long been available to view at the ACCB, where they grace the walls in several galleries. But this show was special because it showcased her work in a larger venue. Terese told us it was also special because she had more control over the work’s display than usual.
“It was important for me to be there,” Terese said, “because I wanted to make sure that everything fit together and to be able to talk with people about my paintings.”
