I love working with kids, and I know art teachers who count on me to bring in interesting art supplies. Here is a list of favorites. If you want to find out more about how to use them, check out my blog: Mixed Media Art Materials That Are Just Right For Kids.

With the upcoming school year and all of the art supplies that need to be stocked up on it’s a good time to talk about some of the best art supplies for kids.

Art materials that are just right for kids.

If you have been reading this blog for a while there is a good chance that you know I am not one who likes to use kits or pre packaged sets of anything when it comes to the art room. I like to make my own materials since they are custom made by me and are less expensive than buying them premade.

Before we get started on materials I want to tell you why I do not like using a lot of premade materials in the art room. It has a lot to do with what kind of person I am, how my brain works, and how I view creativity.

When I was little, my mother read me this book called “The Very Busy Spider.” The story is about a spider who is spinning her web one day and she notices that she does not have enough silk to finish it. She talks herself into going out in search for more silk to finish her project so that she can be done before winter arrives. The spider goes from creature to creature asking if she can take some of their silk but each time

We have a lot of art materials at home. And I mean, a *lot*. A lot to sort through and store, plus we have to replace things every so often when they run out or get broken.

Tons of paint, glitter, glue, paper… it can be overwhelming! And sorting through all that mess looking for inspiration can be tricky, especially when you’re trying to find the right media for a particular project.

Fret no more! Here’s a list of some of the materials we keep around the house that are just right for kids!*

– crayons – markers – colored pencils – watercolors – pastels – oil pastels – finger paints – tempera paint (in a squeeze bottle) – mini-paintbrushes (for fine details) – poster paints (in little bottles) – stickers and stampers – construction paper (bright colors!) – white copy paper (for tracing)**

Now that we’ve established what media our kids enjoy using, let’s talk about some of the tips and tricks I use to incorporate these into their projects.**

* This list is not exhaustive by any means. There are countless other options that would make great choices as well. For example, if you

Art materials for kids is a subject of concern for many parents. There are so many products in the market that it’s hard to determine which one will be the most appropriate for your child. With the help of my experience and research on this subject, I’ve come up with a list of art materials that are just right for kids.

Tissue Paper

Tissue paper is one of the most versatile art materials available on the market today. It’s inexpensive, easy to handle and can be used in a wide variety of ways. To explain how useful tissue papers are, let me give you some examples:

You can use tissue papers to create works of art such as flowers and stars like in this picture: {http://www.ruthrushton.com/teaching/activities/tissue_paper_stars}

You can also use them to practice cutting skills using scissors when making shapes like in this picture: {http://www.ruthrushton.com/teaching/activities/tissue_paper_cards}

You can also make Christmas decorations with them like in this picture: {http://www.ruthrushton.com/teaching/activities/tissue_paper_christmas_decorations

A lot of art materials for kids are just not suited for them. They’re either too hard to use, too expensive, or both. What I like about the products from Art Spectrum is that they’re made out of recycled materials and designed so kids can enjoy them. And, most importantly, they allow the kids to create images that are just right for their abilities.

Trying to make sure your child has the right art supplies doesn’t have to be hard! The great thing about Art Spectrum is that they have a wide range of products that are great for kids of all ages and all levels of artistic ability. So whether you’re buying for your four-year-old or your pre-teen, you’ll find something fun and easy for them to use.

Their products are environmentally friendly, which is something I think we should all strive for in our homes. They’ve got lots of eco-friendly choices including recycled paper, watercolor paint, and sketch pads. Their crayons are made from soybean wax (which is better for the environment than petroleum) and their watercolors are packaged in biodegradable tubes. All these choices will help you feel good about what you’re giving your children to bring out their creative side!

I really love

“Mixed media” is an art term that includes anything from a computer generated design to a child’s scribbles. When we talk about mixed media art, we are talking about art created by combining two or more forms of art and/or materials.

Materials used in mixed media art can include any materials at all, such as paint, pencils, wood pieces, fabric, etc. Mixed media art can be as simple as painting with a dab of paint here and there on a surface or it can be as complex as working with many different types of paper and materials to create a collage.

The Benefits of Creating Mixed Media Art:

1) Learning to use a variety of mediums–This is the biggest benefit to creating mixed media artwork. When working with mixed media materials you are often required to use many different art tools and even non-art tools. For example you may need to use glue, tape or tweezers in your work. In addition you will often incorporate more than one medium into your pieces. For example if you use fabric in your pieces you may need to use paints or pens on top of that fabric to create your final piece.

2) Learning about different types of textures–When using mixed media materials you will often incorporate various

In the past ten years, there has been a surge of interest in mixed media art. Mixed media is defined as an artistic technique that combines different materials and techniques on a single piece of art. This can include combining a variety of painting mediums, such as watercolors and acrylic paint, or incorporating photography into the artwork. The resulting piece can be an original work of art, or it can be designed for creative expression by covering various surfaces with paints, photographs, inks, and other materials.

The appeal of this type of art is that it offers so much creativity. There are no rules or limitations — only the artist’s own imagination. The materials used can include inexpensive items that you probably have on hand around the house, such as photos, magazine clippings, stickers, paint and crayons. Or these same supplies can be combined with more expensive items such as beads and glitter (available in craft stores).

In many ways, mixed media art is like creating collages. But it has its own distinct appeal because the collage concept is simply to glue pictures onto a background. Creating mixed media art is more about recreating something new from all of the parts you choose to incorporate into your project.
