Tracing cut-out images is a fun way to decorate your crafts. There are several ways that you can use to trace and cut an image.

Most people trace the outline of the image onto a contrasting piece of paper before cutting out the silhouetted shape on the main piece of paper.

This method is very effective, but does take time to do. If you want to speed up the process, here are 3 methods for tracing and cutting an image.

Method 1: Use a light table, place the original image face down on top of the light table and place a blank sheet of paper on top of it. Then you draw around it, remove it from the light table and place it face down on a contrasting piece of paper and cut out the image using scissors.

TIP : You can also use this method with little color copies by placing them onto a sticky mat or cardstock that has been placed on top of your light box.

Method 2: Trace without using any extra paper. This method will work best if you have access to a printer with good quality copying capabilities and translucent colored ink cartridges or if you have access to an inkjet printer which also has options for toner copy/printing.

There are a few methods that works for all kinds of images. The first one is to use tracing paper or vellum (a translucent paper used for tracing). You have to have a light source behind you, like a window. The second method is using a projector and tracing the image on some kind of light-colored material. There are also some special machines that “scan” images, but there’s no need to get one of those if you don’t want too.

TIP: If you have an image that’s in black & white, try using colored pencils to color in the image. It makes it easier to see so you can cut the image out more accurately. And they’re easier to find than colored pens and markers. Just remember to use only pencils that aren’t permanent!

1. Cutting Multiple Parts – Since we can’t see the entire image at once, it’s sometimes helpful to cut multiple parts at once and then put them together like a puzzle. Just be careful not to let the pieces overlap too much or it will be hard to put them together correctly.

2. Cutting A Hidden Side – It’s fun to try having part of your piece cut out so that there is still a hidden side. This happens when you cut from the inside of your image (as opposed to cutting from the outside).
