The Importance of Inclusive Spaces

Inclusive spaces are essential for children with autism and other disabilities. These spaces provide a safe and welcoming environment where children can express themselves freely, without fear of judgment or rejection. YorKAOS’s participation in Spark over the February half term is a testament to their commitment to creating such spaces. The charity’s mission is to provide a platform for children with autism and other disabilities to engage in creative activities, develop social skills, and build confidence.

They had a budget of $10,000 and were looking for a venue that could accommodate 200 guests. They had a few options in mind, but they wanted to make sure they had the best possible venue for their event.

Research and Shortlisting

The friends started by researching potential venues in their area. They looked at websites, social media, and online reviews to get an idea of what each venue had to offer. They also asked friends and family for recommendations. After researching, they shortlisted three potential venues that met their criteria. Venue 1: A local park with a large grassy area that could accommodate 200 guests. The park had a small building that could be used for catering and restrooms. Venue 2: A community center with a large hall that could accommodate 200 guests. The community center had a kitchen and restrooms on site. * Venue 3: A private event space with a large room that could accommodate 200 guests. The private event space had a kitchen and restrooms on site.**

Evaluating the Options

The friends evaluated each of the shortlisted venues based on their criteria. They considered factors such as cost, amenities, and location. * Cost: Venue 1 was the cheapest option, with a rental fee of $500. Venue 2 was more expensive, with a rental fee of $1,000.

The Art of YorKaos

YorKaos is a unique art project that brings together children and adults to create a collaborative art piece. The project is open to children aged five to 11, who are invited to submit their artwork by filling out a short form on the YorKaos website. This form will ask for their name, age, and a brief description of their artwork.

How to Participate

To participate in YorKaos, children will need to follow these steps:

  • Fill out the short form on the YorKaos website
  • Submit their artwork
  • Drop off their artwork at York Explore Library
  • What to Expect

Once a child’s artwork is submitted, it will be reviewed by the YorKaos team. If their artwork is selected, it will be featured as part of the collection at York Explore Library.

Proceeds from the sale of the book will also go towards supporting the local charities. The art pieces are created by students from the University of York, under the guidance of the renowned artist, Chris Riddell. The book features 22 original illustrations created by the students, along with a foreword and afterword by notable authors, including Philip Pullman, Malorie Blackman, and Patrick Ness.

The event opening will take place at 11am on February 18 with local artists and famous illustrators invited along.
