Many people think that they can’t make money with photography. I want to dispel these myths and explain why photography is an excellent career choice.
At the age of twenty-three, I started my own wedding photography business and quickly realized that I had a knack for capturing special moments and producing beautiful images. A few years later, I was hired by a local newspaper as a photojournalist. Fast forward: after working at the newspaper for six years, I became an official staff photographer for one of the highest courts in the United States.
The reason why photography is such a great career choice is because it requires very little financial investment to start, while also offering lots of opportunity for growth and income along the way. There are many different paths to becoming a photographer and most of them don’t include having your own darkroom or studio or years of art school. It’s also possible to make a lot of money doing it. Here’s everything you need to know about photography as a career:

It is a truth universally acknowledged that everyone who’s taking a photo wants to be a photographer. But it doesn’t have to be this way.
As a professional photographer, I spend my days working on the kind of projects even professionals would kill for. I’m paid to travel, to meet new people and to work creatively. My job pays the bills, but it allows me the freedom to express my creativity too.

Advantages of being a photographer:
There is something that we do in our brains when we look at a photograph. I can’t explain it, but I know it exists. The eye is drawn to certain points and the mind begins to make sense of what it sees. It’s the same thing that happens when you watch a great film or read a great book, but with a photograph there is no director or writer sitting behind the camera orchestrating your emotions. You are free to interpret the image on your own.
It’s this freedom and ability to interpret that makes photography something special. When you see a stunning portrait, there is no doubt in your mind who or what you are looking at and what you feel about what you see. There isn’t any middle man telling you how to interpret the image or giving you directions on how to feel about the image. It’s just there, in front of you, for you to make sense of it yourself.
I’m not saying that every photograph should be interpreted differently by every person who sees it; I believe most images fall into certain categories and evoke certain feelings in most people.
