Many different types of paper can be used for silhouette art. This can be confusing for artists and crafters who are trying to decide which type of paper to use for their projects.

To help you decide the best type of paper for your specific project, we have complied a list of the different kinds of paper that can be used in silhouette art. We will describe each one, not only its features but how it can be used and how it compares to other types of paper.

1. Polystyrene: This is a light weight, smooth, white plastic material that is very similar to Mylar in look, feel and weight. It comes in many forms such as sheets or rolls and is easily cut with any kind of shears or scissors. The only downside to this type of plastic is it doesn’t hold intricate details well when you’re cutting out your artwork. It’s recommended for use on dark clothing where details aren’t important.

It’s also great for cutting out henna designs on skin since it won’t cause irritation like some other types of paper will. It’s also waterproof so it won’t smear when wet and is great for tattoo transfers.

What is the best type of paper for a silhouette? It depends on your situation. There are three main types of paper.

If you have a silhouette machine, you can cut any kind of paper with it. You can even cut thick card stock or cardboard. But if you are using scissors, you should use:

Cardboard – The best choice for cutting silhouettes with scissors is corrugated cardboard from boxes or other packaging. It has a smooth surface that holds the ink well, and the corrugated side acts like a built-in hinge.

The thickness of the cardboard is not as important as its stiffness. Thin cardboard will bend and give during cutting, and so will not leave an accurate silhouette. Thicker cardboard will be harder to cut through, but won’t bend as much while being cut.

Paper – Paper comes in many varieties, but the two most popular kinds are Bristol and Colored Paper (usually referred to as Color Copy). Bristol is thicker than color copy and holds up better during cutting, but costs more per sheet and doesn’t take pencil or ink very well. Color copy is less expensive than Bristol, but wears out faster with use. Both are good choices for cutting silhouettes by hand when there isn’t much detail in the object

If you want to make something that is going to be a black silhouette, then you should definitely use black. It will be easier for you to trace and it will look better. If you want a white silhouette, then you should not use black. It will be more difficult for you to trace and it will not look good.

A lot of people seem to like colored paper for their silhouettes. I think this is because if they are making something black and white then they might as well make it different colors too. This is fine but if you want your final product to be black and white then it is probably best not to use colored paper. Colored paper is harder to cut out and when it comes time to color the image in, especially if you are using markers, the colors will bleed together.

I really only recommend using black or a very light grey or off-white color of some kind for your projects. If there is any chance that your final product will be printed out in color then this does not apply, but I don’t think that’s very likely!
