The idea for this blog came from the fact that I am involved with a gallery that only shows black and white art. There are plenty of reasons for doing this, but what makes this particular gallery different stems from our philosophy. We have set up the gallery to be a place where people can come and view and discuss art they wouldn’t normally be exposed to. This is because we believe that when people are exposed to new things, whether it be music, art or anything else, it gives them an opportunity to learn more about themselves as well as others.

I am hoping to use this blog as a way to promote our gallery and raise awareness about what we do as well as show off art pieces and talk about them. I will also use this blog as a way to introduce some of my favorite artists and works for people to enjoy.

“This blog is about a gallery that only shows black and white art. This blog is not about why you shouldn’t show monochrome works. If you like to read about the advantages of a B&W gallery, then there are many blogs out there on this topic.

This blog is to show why my particular gallery is very different from the rest of them.

My gallery does not compromise on any aspect of the work that I exhibit, nor does it compromise on the standard of installation for each piece. To me it is totally unacceptable to display a piece with an unsatisfactory frame or a dirty wall (and I have seen both in major institutions). So I don’t do it! Neither do I accept works that are too big or too small for their spot or ones with labels hidden by frames. The art has to be right first time and so there is no room for error as far as these areas are concerned.”

I’ve been a fan of black and white photography for quite some time. It is a wonderful art form and one that I believe is becoming more popular.

I’m lucky enough to live close to the B&W Gallery in Portland and it always amazes me to see the work that is on display there. This gallery has been around for over a decade now and there are very few places like it left in the country.

What makes this particular gallery different? They only show black and white! There are no sepia colored prints or hand colored photographs here. It’s all black and white or color…and grey, of course.

The gallery has exhibitions year round and they have hundreds of pieces of fine art displayed at any given time. They also offer classes on black & white photography, film development, etc., so be sure to check out their web site (http://www.bwportland.com/) for more information on how you can get involved with this great organization!

I have always been fascinated by black and white art. I love to see all the different styles of black and white art. I have even had my own gallery that only shows black and white paintings, drawings and other forms of art. It is not easy to be able to show such a vast range of work, but I do my best to do it justice.

The gallery has been around for many years now and still draws in the crowds from all over who want to see what we have on show. We are very proud of this as it means that we are doing something right in order for people to keep coming back. There is no doubt that you can get a greater amount of beauty from a collection of black and white works than you can from a collection of colour pieces. In my opinion, there is just nowhere near as much skill involved in colouring as there is when you are drawing or painting in black and white because you have to focus on form far more than you would usually need to as well as paying attention to detail.

I think that black and white art is just better simply because it is easier for me to focus on the details involved in the piece rather than the colouring (which tends to distract me) when I am looking at a work of

There seem to be as many ways to make art as there are artists. What could be more unique than a particular style? Yet if you look at the art world, it’s pretty hard to find anything that is not derivative. And most of what we call “style” is the expression of some very basic ideas about art.

How does this happen? I think that when you find something you like, what you’re really doing is finding something you understand. It makes sense to you, fits in with your other ideas, and so on. But this doesn’t guarantee that it will make good art.

What happens when an artist starts out is that they copy things they see around them. They want to draw or paint because it gives them pleasure, or because they want to appear talented. The only reason anyone wants to appear talented is because they think it will get them something they want: friends, jobs, money, and so on.

If you’re young or inexperienced, chances are that what you care about most is fitting in with other people who draw or paint. You might never notice that it feels good to make pictures in a particular way; what matters is whether this kind of picture seems “right.” This is why almost all artists do derivative work at first
