What is the Work of Art category on Steam? A blog to inform users that they are being charged more for games that are simply work of art and do not have much content.
An example of such a game is Monetization: Artwork. The game allows you to play as an art critic. You pick a painting up from an artist’s studio, travel through a museum and admire the paintings, then once you reach the final room you get to yell “This piece of crap won’t sell for $1! I’ll give it a 10 for creativity though.” and then proceed to rate it 10/10.
The user will then be asked whether they would like to buy this masterpiece for $50,000 before proceeding to the next piece of artwork. There are two paths in the museum; one which will take you through all the ‘impressive’ works of art and another which will take you through more ‘original’ works of art but most likely cost less.

Name:How was your day
Hello, I am a writer here at Steam and as you may have noticed, we have a category for games called “work of art.” It’s important to know that this category is not the same thing as the “art game” genre. For example, even though Dear Esther is a game that belongs in the category “art game,” it does not belong in the category “work of art.”
Titles that are placed in the Work of Art category are released by a publisher who has requested that Steam charge more for these titles due to their small number of purchasable content. The publisher has done this because they believe it will reduce the number of purchases and limit reviews.
It is important to know that only titles released on Steam will appear in this list, so if you buy a physical copy of Starbound or any other title released on Steam, it will not appear in this list. Also, keep in mind that it doesn’t matter whether you buy your games on Steam or elsewhere, or even if you buy them used. If you see a title on this list and haven’t bought it on Steam, it is because you were being overcharged for it due to its size.
The work of art category on Steam is a joke. This also shows how Valve’s policy of allowing users to set their own prices has been corrupted by the discovery that some people will pay more for a game simply because it has less content.
Terraria is a fairly new game that was developed by Re-Logic and published by 505 Games. The game costs $9.99 for PC but the developer has put it on Steam as a work of art and priced it at $14.99. The game has almost no additional content, just like many other indie games. It is simply an updated version of the original with better graphics and more enemies to kill. This means that people are paying over double the price for less content in the newer version.
This is not only an issue with indie games either, as seen with Braid. An updated version of Braid was released for PC that cost $14.99 instead of $9.99 like the original one did when it was first released for Xbox Live Arcade in 2008. With so little new content added to justify such a high price increase, it is clear that people were willing to pay this higher price purely because they already had played the original release and wanted to support the developer further.*
Good day everyone!
I am here to inform you that Valve has recently released a new category on Steam known as “Work of Art”. The prices of games in this category are far higher than the rest of the games in Steam. For example, a $60 game will cost $90 in this category. This is possibly the most unfair thing that Valve has ever done to the community and we need to do something about it.
How can Valve do something like this? It is completely unacceptable for a company to steal away their customers’ money with false advertising. If you look at their description of the category, it basically says that these games are “high quality” but not much more than that. This is not enough information for anyone to make an informed decision about whether or not they want to buy a game in this category.
In addition, there is no way for us to refund our purchases once we have bought a game from this new category. I feel like this is just another way for Valve to take advantage of people who are ignorant about the rules of Steam and how the refund policy works.
Valve needs to change this category immediately before people start getting scammed out of their hard earned money. The best place for them to start would be to add more
Steam is a platform that offers users a variety of games to choose from. It has titles such as The Lion’s Song, Butcher, and many more. However, there are some games that don’t seem to fit into the categories such as:
1. The Lion’s Song
2. Farlight Explores
3. Inside My Radio
4. This Is the Police
5. A Hat in Time
6. GoNNER
7. Duskers
8. Chambara
9. Cannon Brawl
10. Sakura Angels
These games are either not categorized well or are simply work of art on Steam and does not have much content for the price of the game being charged for it. I find that these games should be separated from other games that offer more content for less money like Rocket League (Totally worth it).
Steam is a platform that allows the users to download and purchase games. They are offering various categories of games such as shooting, racing, action, fantasy and many other genres. However, some of their games are not really “games” in the traditional sense. These titles are simply an interactive sculpture or artwork.”
