The Warli tribe is one of the oldest tribes of Maharashtra. The tribe has been in existence for more than thousands of years, but their art and culture have been lost over the ages.

Till two decades ago the Warli tribe was little known, even to the people of India. But today their art is famous worldwide.

On 16th September 2017, the world celebrated International Day of Peace. The theme for this year was ‘Youth Building Peace’. This theme is important because peace must be built by the young generation and maintained by them as well. Young generation should understand that peace is a state of mind and they themselves can build it if they want to do so.

The youth are full of energy and are always ready to do something new. If they channelize this energy in positive manner, they can make a difference to the world around them. The youth have a big role to play in making the world a better place to live in. They can contribute significantly towards world peace if they take up this responsibility with full zeal and enthusiasm.

The Warli tribe is an example for all those who forget their culture and traditions with passage of time and try to find new ways of life. The Warlis were one such tribe who had almost

“We were made to be happy.” This is how a Warli artist began his conversation with me about the culture he belongs to. But, in a country like India filled with so much diversity, Warlis are an ostracized tribe that is fast losing its identity and culture.

The Warlis live in the Thane district of Maharashtra, along the banks of the Ulhas River, which originates in the Western Ghats. The river’s waters dip down as it flows through the mountains before spilling into the Arabian Sea. The Warli people have always lived on its banks, making their livelihood from fishing and other activities related to water bodies.

In 2014, when I first visited this region for a story on a new railway line that would run between Mumbai and Nashik, I met many Warli artists who spoke about their culture with pride. They told stories of how they had developed a rich language (made up of symbols) and tradition that revolved around art and nature. But they also spoke of how they were struggling to protect their fading heritage against rapid modernization and urbanization, which was threatening to destroy it forever.*

Warli art is a type of painting that comes from the Warli tribe of India. They’re celebrated for their fantastic, colorful paintings. They’re so elaborate that it can take days to finish one painting. But the most interesting thing about them is that they look like cartoons, with big eyes and thick lines.

Tribal art is usually traditional and much more simple than the Warli art. The colors are muted and often dull, and the designs are geometric or abstract. Warli art stands out because it’s so different from other tribal art. It’s bright and often very detailed, with bold lines and outlines.

The reason why Warli art is so colorful is because they believe that bright colors keep evil spirits away. Their art focuses on animals and plants, which are believed to be sacred beings in their religion.

Since they’re located in India, they have been influenced by Hinduism as well as their own religion, so you’ll often see Hindu deities in their paintings too.

Although Warli painting has been around for centuries, it was almost forgotten over time as the tribe became assimilated into Indian culture. Today there are only about 2,000 members of this tribe left in India, but some of them still make this type of art today.

These paintings are part of the Warli culture. The Warli are an ethnic group found in the Thane district of Maharashtra, India. This group was rediscovered in the 1970s and is being studied by anthropologists and art historians to understand their history, culture, and art.

In order to get a better understanding of the Warli art and their culture, it is important to first understand who they are as a group. The Warli people live in India, along the east coast of Maharashtra, in the Konkan region, which is where Mumbai is located (Mumbai is India’s largest city). This region experiences heavy monsoons from June through September, making it very hard for these people to survive. They have lived in this area for hundreds of years but have been largely forgotten about through history because they did not interact with any other groups or areas that were documented by anthropologists.

The Warlis are an indigenous community that does not belong to any religion or caste system. They have their own language and social structure that has remained unchanged for generations. The Warlis are an endogamous community, meaning they do not intermarry with other groups and marry only within their own community. They work primarily as farmers and farm laborers.

Despite the fact

Warli art is an Indian tribal art of the Warli tribe that lives in the north-west region of Maharashtra, India. It is an ancient art form and it is one of the most striking traditional arts in India because of its visual beauty.

Tribal art forms are generally about the routine activities, practices and customs of a tribe or a community. But it is not the same with Warli painting. It’s not a mere record of their everyday life; it also depicts their philosophy, beliefs and way of life.

The tradition has been passed down from generation to generation over centuries. This form of art was practiced as a ritualistic practice during festivals and other social events.

Warli paintings are mostly done on cloth but have now been extended to paintings, murals and even on walls.

There are some interesting facts related to Warli paintings: –

1) The Warli tribe is located in Palghar, Thane, Maharashtra and they traditionally speak Marathi language. However the Warli language belongs to the same family as Bhili, spoken by tribes in Madhya Pradesh. Their lineages can be traced back to Munda tribes who originally lived in Chhotanagpur plateau in Jharkhand (then Bihar).

The Warli tribe hails from the Thane district of Maharashtra. They speak the Warli language and have a rich folklore encompassing their beliefs, traditions, and rites. The tribal people are a unique group who have been able to retain their identity through the ages. Not much is known about them as they are one of the lesser-known tribes in India.

The Warli tribe has produced some of the most beautiful arts in India, like their paintings on walls (Chitrakathi) which depicts scenes from their daily lives, especially hunting. The major colors used by these artists are red, yellow and black. The paintings depict human figures and animals in different poses and styles.*

The Warlis are a tribe from the state of Maharashtra in India. They are also known as Warli painters, and they have their own distinctive way of painting on the walls of their homes (which are called kolams). The art is actually not new at all—it has been around for hundreds of years. The paintings depict many different scenes, which include animals and plants. Warli art is full of symbols that are easy to interpret.

We can say that this particular style of painting was created by the tribal people—but only because they used something that was already part of their lives: the trees they had around them were already a part of their day-to-day life. The leaves, flowers, fruits, seeds and stems were used as a reference for making the pictures. They even used insects, birds and animals to make their art more realistic.

The work is unique because it does not follow any kind of structure or rules; each picture has its own story and meaning. We can say that it is an expressionist artwork, because each picture has its own symbolism […].
