Many of us are choosing healthy foods that look or sound very good, but we don’t really know what these foods contain. It is not enough to just look at the ingredients on the packaging, because some ingredients may be useful for our health while others might not be so good. So before you choose to consume a particular food product, it is important that you know what ingredients they contain and how they affect your health.

Unraveling the mystery of what a healthy diet is can be very difficult. There are so many contradicting opinions on what makes a healthy food and what does not. Some of these opinions are from people who do not have a degree in nutrition and those opinions may not be accurate to say the least.

To find out what makes a healthy food, you first need to know what ingredients are good for you and which ones are bad for you. Here is a list of some ingredients that every person should avoid:

Added sugars – These are highly processed which means they lack essential nutrients and vitamins. They also contain large amounts of fat, sodium and cholesterol. Sugar is one of the major ingredients found in candy, soda, cakes and cookies. You should try to eliminate or reduce the amount of sugar you consume on a daily basis; there is too much sugar added into processed foods already.

Ingredients that have been bleached or brominated – Bleaching is used to whiten flour and brominating is used as an emulsifier in citrus-flavored soft drinks. Both processes remove essential nutrients and may also contain carcinogens such as benzene hexachloride and ethylene oxide, which are cancer-causing chemicals. These chemicals can be harmful to your

We all know what chocolate is but when it comes to food we need to be more aware of what are the ingredients that go into making the food. We all have heard about the food pyramid, many people do not really stick to it for a variety of reasons. One of the reasons is because some of the foods on the pyramid may not be that healthy as they claim to be.

                1    Bread and cereal products

The most important category of food for everyone should be whole grains, particularly whole wheat bread, brown rice and oatmeal. If you don’t like these items you can find healthy alternatives in rye bread or pasta made with whole wheat flour. Be careful with breakfast cereals, many are high in sugar and unhealthy fats.

The second group includes fruits and vegetables. These are very important to your health, make sure that at least five portions of fruits and vegetables a day is a must in your diet. Try to incorporate different kinds of fruits and vegetables into your meals and snacks. You can also benefit from leafy green salads, they can make your meal more filling so you consume less calories than if you had a meal that only included meats or starches.

Tofu is one ingredient

Artichokes are healthy because they are high in fiber, folate and antioxidants. Oranges are a good source of vitamin C and have many phytonutrients. Grains like quinoa and brown rice help to balance blood sugar and increase digestive health. And so on.

Taken individually, none of these ingredients is necessarily best in class. Grains other than quinoa and brown rice can be just as healthy. Artichokes can be a bit high in calories, depending on how they are prepared. Nothing can beat spinach for iron or broccoli for its cancer-fighting properties.

Each food is healthy precisely because it contains a variety of ingredients that contribute to overall health. You don’t want to eat just one thing; you want the entire mix of nutrients found in your chosen diet. It’s the combination that makes the difference.
