Using Clear Cling Film to Dry Alcohol Based Inks

The first question to ask is what kind of paper you’re using. For example, I use a lot of Clear Cling film to dry my alcohol based inks. This is because I like the look of how it wraps around the artwork and it’s easy to peel off. It can also be a bit expensive for large prints, so I tend to make it about 6″ by 6″ and print on that. If you need more room than that, then you can always print up a few at the same time and stick them together after they’re dry.

In order to use Clear Cling film with your inkjet printer, you’ll need several things:

*A roll of clear plastic (cling) film. You can find this at most office supply stores or online at Amazon.com

*An inkjet printer (duh…)

*Art paper (or something else you want to print on)

*A piece of paper or cardboard slightly smaller than your finished size

*A cutting mat and/or a utility knife (to cut the cling film)

*Gloves, if you don’t want finger prints all over your stuff!

If you have ever tried to create art using alcohol based inks, you know it can be a bit tricky. The inks tend to smear and smudge easily. But that is not the only problem.

Your biggest problem is probably the smell of the ink, which can linger in your work area for days while you are working on a project.

But there is an easy solution to this issue: Clear Cling Film! Clear Cling Film is a clear plastic material that works as a temporary barrier between the ink and your workspace.

You can find clear cling film at most any arts and crafts store. It’s typically sold on large rolls and is used by artists as a protective layer when creating masterpieces with their paints.

The first step to using Clear Cling Film is to stick down your paper onto the work surface where you will be creating your artwork. For best results, use something that will allow your paper to breathe such as a foam board or poster board. This will allow air to circulate under the cling film so it does not trap moisture from escaping from underneath of it. You don’t want moisture trapped under there! *wink*

Once you have stuck down your paper onto your work surface, use painters tape to tape off an area

I started off at the beginning of this Instructable using a regular old t-shirt from Goodwill that I used to wipe my paintbrush on. Then, after the first couple layers, I moved up to using a rag for the same purpose. After about five layers of paint, I was using a paper towel.

And then I got lazy and moved on to using microfiber cleaning towels from Amazon.

I’ve always appreciated a good clean finished look in my artwork, so after many layers of paint, you can imagine what my work looked like as it dried and flaked off. And then one day, I came across some clips on YouTube that mentioned something called “Clear Cling Film” that is used in the food industry (literally right on food) to wrap things up and then be peeled off once the food is ready to be packaged and sold.

This stuff was PERFECT! It made my artwork look crisp and clean while still allowing it to dry and flake off naturally. And since it is super thin and clear, you can see your artwork through it! How cool is that?

I have been making art for years now and I have tried lots of different types of materials and tools, but the one item that has made the biggest difference in my artwork is clear cling film. What is it? It is just a sheet of plastic that you can buy at the grocery store to wrap food or in the fabric section to make new curtains. It comes in various sizes and thicknesses.

Have you ever wanted to create something artistic, but found it difficult or impossible? For example, have you wanted to paint a beautiful picture, but couldn’t find the right colors?

If so, you should make use of clear cling film (commonly referred to as Saran Wrap). Although this product is generally used for food preservation and storage purposes, it can be used for many other things as well. In fact, clear cling film has helped many an artist create beautiful pieces of artwork. Here’s how.

Clear Cling Film and Artwork

In order to produce beautiful artwork utilizing clear cling film, you must first prepare your supplies. These include: clear cling film, a brush or roller tray (to help you roll out the cling film), acrylic paint (in any color of your choosing), and paper or canvas (a type of thin cloth that is suitable for painting on). In addition, you will need protective gloves and a workspace free from light so that the paint will dry properly.

The next step in this process is to lay out the canvas in front of you and then place the piece of clear cling film over it. Then, dip your brush into your chosen color of paint and begin painting onto the clear cling film.

When you are finished painting

A lot of people want to make their own art, but they don’t know how. The process can seem complicated and expensive. But it doesn’t have to be either of those things.

In this article I’ll go through the materials you need, the process of creating art, and how to get your art into a gallery or museum.
