I have been a nurse for 23 years. I am currently the charge nurse in a busy cardiothoracic surgical unit. I love what I do and have never felt more at home than I do when working as a professional caregiver.
The field of nursing is ever changing and growing. As nurses, we are faced with new challenges daily. The role of one, as defined by the American Nurses Association (ANA), “is central to the delivery of safe, quality patient care.” As nurses, we must be willing to help patients, families and each other overcome these challenges and grow professionally.
The role of one encompasses four nursing functions:
– Nursing assessment: The role of one is responsible for assessing all aspects of the patient’s condition upon admission to the unit.
– Care planning: The role of one is responsible for developing an individualized plan of care based on assessments and diagnosis.
– Teaching/educating: The role of one is responsible for teaching patients, family members and other members of the health care team how to enhance their own health.
– Quality improvement: The role of one works with his/her team to improve overall patient care through quality improvement measures taken within the unit.*

One of the most important attributes that can help one excel in the workplace is being able to understand what role you play in a particular project and playing it to perfection.
Being able to determine the proper role to play in any given situation will not only ensure that you are a valuable asset to your organization but that you are also respected and appreciated by your co-workers and supervisors. The key to excelling in any position is to know what type of work you are expected to do and how you are expected to do it.
Information is King! If you want to be successful at work, you must understand your job description and all aspects of the company. This includes company policies, company culture as well as your individual job description. Understanding what role you play will not only affect how well you execute your job but also play a major role in determining if you advance professionally. Being able to identify your role, execute it successfully and even exceed expectations will ultimately allow you to move up the corporate ladder which creates better opportunities for advancement. Knowing what role you play will also allow you the opportunity to create positive relationships with co-workers, supervisors, partners and clients alike.
Being able to identify your role will enable you to focus on what really matters when executing your tasks. For example
The workplace is ever changing, and it’s true that you must adapt to these changes in order to succeed professionally. However, the need to adapt should not mean a total overhaul of your professional personality. You will succeed if you stay true to yourself and maintain a professional focus.
I think my most important contribution was to provide a kind of “hand-holding” for the people who worked with me. I helped them through their various challenges, enabling them to focus on their jobs and have some success in them.
This is especially true of the women I worked with, many of whom were ill-treated by the male-dominated company I worked for. The women would confide in me about problems they were having and I would strategize with them about dealing with issues like sexism, ageism, and nepotism. I could then pass their concerns up the chain of command and we could work on finding ways to address them.
I did not win every battle, but I was able to help many people find fairness in a system that was not really set up to be fair to everyone.
Although my position was entry level, I gained recognition and responsibility quickly as management saw how valuable my work was. In one year, my salary nearly doubled.
“The right job for you” is not a thing. It’s a process. It’s a conversation. It’s a big question with lots of answers, some better than others.
In my experience — from the other side of the desk and the other side of the table — the best managers and companies don’t have a set process for making hiring decisions. They have a set of values and principles that they try to follow; they have an understanding of what makes for a great employee; and they know how to conduct an interview so that both parties can learn about whether there’s a good match between candidate and company.
If you’re looking for work, or if you’re trying to figure out how to help someone else find work, here are some principles I believe in:
1) Every job has an aspect that requires expertise, and another that requires judgment. No one can be an expert in everything, but anyone who wants to do their job well needs experience with solving those problems that require both skill and judgment.
2) Judgment is more important than skill. A person who knows what they’re doing but doesn’t know when it’s appropriate or how to do it is more dangerous than someone who doesn’t know exactly what to do but does know when it’s
Medical art can be defined as the creative process of using your own body to create medical illustrations and models. For example, when a doctor has to explain a patient’s condition to the other doctors, he will often use medical art. Sometimes, a patient’s existing conditions can be drawn to show how it is treated with medications or surgeries.
The point of Medical Art is to communicate what you are trying to say as clearly as possible. Students should also try to communicate their ideas with other students and professionals. The process of creating Medical Art can be a learning experience in itself.
In this blog, I will share my experiences and some tips on how I have learned.
I hope that you are able to find useful advice here and I hope that you will enjoy reading this blog and perhaps leave some comments!
Take care and good luck in your studies!**
In my work as a physician, I have had the opportunity to work with and treat many people, from a 12-year-old boy with muscular dystrophy, to more recently a woman who had gone into labor at 28 weeks. In my career, I have delivered more babies than I can count.
It is hard for me to describe in words the feeling I get when a baby is born, and I am responsible for that child’s health. The first time was on an ambulance. Never mind the circumstances of how the birth came about, or what happened afterward—I still remember it like it was yesterday. It was such an extreme feeling of joy and adrenaline—like nothing else I have ever experienced. It’s not something you forget.
In medicine—and in life in general—there are times when you can’t change everything that happens to you or around you. You can only control what you do, and sometimes even that is limited. But if you do your best, then no one can say that you didn’t try or do what you could have done.
