The main purpose of creating the National Gallery of Art was to secure for all people in the U.S.A access to the best works of art that are owned by the government.

I am an art lover so I visit the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. regularly. I like how they have a variety of art work from different artists and eras. The building is a wonderful piece of architecture and the location is superb, just across from the Smithsonian museums on the Mall. I used to live in Washington, DC so I know that parking can be difficult at times. My advice for visitors would be to take the bus if you don’t have a car or drive out of peak hours because you’ll never find parking. If you’re lucky enough to find it available, it will cost about $5 per half hour (if you’re staying for just a couple of hours) and $15-$20 for all day parking.

The gallery is open every day except December 25 from 10:00 am – 5:30 pm on weekdays and 10:00 am – 7:00 pm on weekends and holidays. It has free admission on Friday evenings from 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm as well as free admission every Saturday from 10 am-8pm.*
