Many authors think that the cover does not matter. But it is one of the most important parts of a book. It is the first line of communication with your potential reader. It can make or break a sale.

There are two basic types of covers, the text and image. The text ones are easier to create as they only need words and images, while image ones also require graphic design skills. For example, if you want to use stock images then you need to know how to edit them in order to achieve the desired result.

The most popular covers are those that catch the eye and make your heart beat faster. There are plenty of examples on the market which don’t have anything to do with the contents of the book, but this does not mean that attractive covers do not sell books. I know, I know. The covers don’t matter, right? Well, no – they don’t matter as much as the actual writing but they definitely DO matter. In our case, westerns lovers want their covers to be simple, plain and attractive. Covers that say “I am a western” or “look at me!” are not going to work for them. While we understand that some readers might prefer flashy covers that contain action or mystery elements, for our westerns readers, this just won’t cut it.*
