The Artists’ Brief
The City Box Takeover project has brought together a group of talented artists who have been commissioned to transform the city’s utility boxes and cabinets into breathtaking works of art. Each piece is inspired by artwork in CELF: National Contemporary Art Gallery for Wales, showcasing the city’s rich cultural heritage.

The Trail Awaits
On Saturday, April 26, the city centre will become a vibrant art trail, featuring the stunning creations. To make the experience even more exciting, a secret code will be hidden on the decorated City Boxes, leading participants on an adventure to uncover its secrets.
Join Ty at the trail’s starting point, grab a map, and set out to explore the city centre, solving the code and discovering the hidden gems. The trail will lead you to various locations, each featuring a unique artwork inspired by the works in CELF.

But that’s not all – there’s more to look forward to! On the same day, April 26, several free activities will be taking place throughout the city centre, ensuring everyone can participate and enjoy the event.
- The Artists’ Feast @ The Hive, NP20 1JB: Enjoy a delicious cooked meal as a reward for completing the trail.
- Make and Take – Landscape Edition @ Newport Museum and Art Gallery, Floor 3, NP20 1PA: Create your own landscape inspired by the work of Errnest Zobole.
- Collaging CELF @ The Place, NP20 4AL: Join Lucilla and create a large-scale collaborative piece of work inspired by the CELF ar y Cyd Collection.
- Green Crafternoon @ RE: MAKE, NP20 1HB: Spend an afternoon crafting creative projects using recycled cardboard and spare materials.
