Artists have long understood the power of color, but for many years, there was no scientific evidence to prove it. However, a recent study has proven that color can in fact help us feel and behave better.

A study conducted by Dr. David Lewis and his colleagues at the University of Manchester found that people exposed to bright colors experienced lower levels of stress and greater mental alertness. They also concluded that people prefer to work in a room with colored walls instead of white or gray walls.*

Color is beneficial because it affects mood, energy levels, and overall well-being.

Color therapy is a form of alternative medicine which uses colored light to heal physical and emotional ailments. It is based on the premise that each color affects the body and emotions in different ways, and any negative emotions can be healed with its opposing color. The endorphins are what give us a sense of well-being after spending time in the sun. Color therapists say that these same chemical reactions can be triggered by the use of specific colors.

The idea behind color therapy is that each color has a particular effect on our moods, emotions and physical health. For example, blue is associated with tranquility and freedom from stress and anger; red is considered stimulating, energizing and warming; green connotes harmony, balance and healing; orange brings enthusiasm, warmth, energy and courage; yellow represents new beginnings; purple symbolizes spirituality; pink signifies love and compassion.

There are many techniques used in color therapy. One method involves wearing a colored light on the body or in front of the eyes while another requires a patient to sit in front of colored lights or painted walls while undergoing therapy sessions.
