The Band Plays On is a blog about contemporary art and its influence on society. It is based on the idea that art raises questions that are in the public’s best interest to have answered. The blog is produced by a team of journalists and artists who work across mediums.
The focus of this blog is contemporary art, but we will not shy away from controversial subject matter. The editorial board has extensive experience producing content for a variety of publications, including the San Francisco Chronicle and Salon.com.
The primary goal of this blog is to provide an avenue for artists to express their point of view, while also allowing them to share their stories. Our secondary goal is to educate readers about contemporary art and its role in society by featuring stories about specific artists and issues in the art world.
The Band Plays On aims to promote dialogue between artists and their audience. The blog features interviews with notable figures in the field, publishing submissions from contributors around the world, and provides a space for readers to interact with each other and share their opinions about the featured work.*
There are many ways to create art. Some artists create using paint, pencils, and paper. Some artists create using clay or metal. You can also create art using words, like a novel or a poem. Other types of art include music, dance, and theater.
T he most common way to display artwork is in a gallery or museum. Galleries are usually run by an organization that takes care of the artwork and sells it to people that want it. You can also display artwork on your own if you want to.
Artists that have an established gallery or museum usually gain fame from their work and start making lots of money from selling their work. Selling pieces of art can be very rewarding for the artist because they get to see their vision become something tangible and they get paid for it!
There is one famous artist who creates art in a very unique way – Banksy. Banksy is known as the most famous street artist in the world because he creates his artwork on walls, bridges, and buildings all over the world. Banksy is able to travel around the world because he has no home base – he travels around with his crew who helps him set up and take down his exhibitions every day.**
We work with artists to advise on their exhibitions, which can vary from small one-off shows to large scale touring projects.
As well as providing the opportunity to sell a new body of work, exhibitions are a key way in which contemporary artists connect with their public.
We have developed the auction strategy for a number of our artists and have worked closely with leading auction houses to help them to understand and appreciate our artists’ practices.
We also provide artists with financial advice, help them to develop their business practices and we advise on tax planning issues.
Our team work closely with our artists, who are at the heart of everything we do. We are passionate about supporting them in making their career aspirations a reality.
According to art critic and professor Robert C. Morgan, “Contemporary art is the most exciting popular music of our time.” I couldn’t agree more. It’s interesting that many people see the art world as snooty and inaccessible, full of privileged brats who only want to shock you; and if you don’t understand it, then it’s not worth your attention. I believe that contemporary art is for everyone and anyone can enjoy it.

As one of the leading contemporary artists in the world, Darren Almond is accustomed to seeing his work displayed in the most prestigious galleries throughout the world. However, Darren Almond’s latest exhibition saw his art displayed in a rather different location: on a Boeing 757 aircraft.
The artist was commissioned by British Airways to create a single piece of art to fill the walls of an aircraft cabin. The theme of his work was “Flight,” and he created a large-scale installation that filled the entire aircraft cabin. Darren Almond’s work entitled “Redirected Flight” consisted of 2,500 lifejackets decorated with images relating to flight, death and escape; it also featured two video pieces. The video pieces were made specifically for this project and show clips from Darren Almond’s short film Redirected Flight; these were played on screens at the front and back of the aircraft cabin.
“It is an honour to have been given this opportunity by British Airways,” said Darren Almond, who designed his work with the aim of making it as striking as possible. “This project gave me complete freedom to create something that could only exist in this very unusual space.”
Darren Almond’s previous works have been displayed at some of the biggest galleries around the world
Artists are passionate about their art, so it’s not surprising that they’re passionate about their opinions. A blog is a great way of expressing those opinions and reaching out to people who share similar interests.

The Tate Modern is one of the world’s most visited museums. It was opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on 17th May 2000 when she pressed a button to start the engines of a 100-ton crane which lifted the first sheets of steel from the Thames and began work on the new building. The building is dominated by a huge turbine hall which houses Turbine Hall 2 – three acres of gallery space – where major works from the
Contemporary art is still a big business. It’s just that the big business is no longer in the art market, it’s in the trading of art-related financial instruments. The world of contemporary art has become one of the most important sites for speculation and financialization.
The artist Richard Prince said that “I can’t compete with Christie’s and Sotheby’s” . The turning point came around 1990, when the top end of the contemporary art market began to be dominated by investors and speculators as opposed to aesthetes and collectors. Since then, the world has been flooded by an overheated supply of contemporary art, much of which is made specifically for this new role in an unregulated market where there are few barriers to entry for new players.
Today, contemporary art is increasingly used as collateral for loans and other deals. Contemporary art is bought as a place to stash cash from dodgy dealings or from corruption. Contemporary art is also being bought by vulture funds who are interested only in its investment value and not at all in its aesthetic value. Art fairs are becoming more like financial exchanges than places where works of art go on view.*
