Having just moved into our new home and wanting to decorate the walls, my husband and I decided to look for some ideas online. We found many sites that contained great ideas for how to use chalkboards as decorative items, but we couldn’t find any that actually featured chalkboard art. I have been doing some research on chalkboard painting and I am quite impressed with the results.

So if you want to follow these steps, read on. The first thing you will want to do is make sure your board is clean, and then wash it down with soap and water. If it is not totally clean, it will be hard to get the paint to stick. After that let it dry off and then wait a few days before starting your project. Then take your chalkboard painting spray paint and spray the entire board with one coat. Make sure that you are in a well ventilated area while spraying so that you do not inhale any fumes.*

After it dries, use a rag or paper towel to rub off any excess paint. If you have an old piece of clothing that you don’t mind ruining, that would work great too.*

Let it dry for another day or so and then use chalkboard markers to write on your chalkboard.*
