Museums are essential to art appreciation. That is because they house so many works of art. You can’t appreciate art if you don’t have any to appreciate. Art museums provide that opportunity. Many museums have free events and shows to inspire art appreciation.

Art appreciation does not come naturally, however. Most people are not born with a talent for appreciating art. It is difficult to acquire the ability to appreciate a work of art, but it is not impossible. There are steps you can take to learn how to appreciate art more fully. The first step is visiting a museum that houses many works of art in one location.

Some people feel intimidated about going into an art museum for the first time, but there are ways around that problem as well. The best way is through an introduction from someone who has already been inside and become an aficionado of the arts. Another way is by doing your own research on the internet or in books on the subject matter before you go into the museum; this will help you understand what you are looking at once you have arrived at such a place of fine arts appreciation as a museum or gallery.*

I’ve been a part of so many art shows, and I’ve always loved them. One of my favorite things is to see what others will create, it’s so inspiring. It’s also really nice to meet people who are really into art, and share ideas. Sometimes it can be hard to find all the different shows in your local area, but fret not! I’ve searched the web for you and put together a list of all the museums that have free events and shows going on now or later this month or next month as well. Some have lectures going on, some have openings, some have classes, some have concerts! But all are great opportunities to experience art in your community.

Tucson Museum of Art Free First Friday Lecture Series

The 1st Friday of every month from 5-8pm there is FREE admission to the museum for a lecture about an artist (the artists vary with each visit). The lecture is usually half an hour long and then there is usually time to walk around inside the museum and enjoy the galleries. There is no admission fee to attend but you must RSVP by emailing info@tucsonmuseumofart.org. This lecture series happens every 1st Friday of each month from 5-8pm but they

Are you a student looking for something to do with your extra time? Are you looking for an activity to share with friends and family? Have you been searching for ways to experience great art without spending a lot of money or leaving your community? You’re in luck! There are plenty of ways for students to engage in art.

In the past decade, a growing number of museums has begun offering free events and shows to encourage greater participation in the arts. Museums have realized that they need to offer programs that are accessible and affordable, especially to younger audiences. Art is often seen as an expensive pursuit, but this is beginning to change. Here are just some of the ways that students can find free culture wherever they live.

Tours and Talks

Many museums offer free events designed specifically for college students, such as docent tours led by local experts or lecture series intended to help young adults develop their appreciation of art. During these programs, participants are able to ask questions about what they see, discuss their reactions with other like-minded individuals, and learn about the artists and their work up close.

If you can’t make it into town for a museum’s public event, take advantage of technology by using your phone or computer to view webinars or recorded lectures.

Art is an experience that can be relished but not captured on paper. Art appreciation can only be actually felt by the eye, but it can still be enjoyed vicariously by others as art appreciation schools, museums and galleries are available to publicize and showcase different forms of art.

A number of museums have free viewing days or special shows that are either for students or for low income citizens. Museums like the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C., The Metropolitan Museum of New York, the Philadelphia Museum of Art and The Los Angeles County Museum of Art all have programs and exhibits for students interested in art. For example, at the Metropolitan Museum of Arts’ “Circus” exhibit from March 15, 2011 to July 17, 2011, five dollars will get you a ticket to the entire show. The exhibit features paintings and photographs from artists who were inspired by the circus during its heyday.

The Getty Center and Getty Villa also offers free days to students as well as free lectures and concerts throughout the year. In addition, The Getty museum’s educators offer guidance to teachers on how to incorporate the Getty into their lesson plans.

There are a number of ways to find these programs; perhaps the best way is through your school or city’s visitors website which should

Art museums are not just for art history majors and the super-rich; it’s for everyone. Museums can provide a space of great beauty to enjoy, but also have free days, lectures, and traveling exhibits that are open to the public. Art appreciation is something that takes a lot of time and effort to develop. It’s not something you can acquire from a book, or even from a more experienced friend. It takes exposure to the art itself, and the only way to get that is by going to galleries and museums.

Let’s face it, art isn’t usually something that comes up in everyday conversation. But if you spend some time learning about it, you’ll be able to enhance many aspects of your life with those experiences.

You’ll have better conversations with your friends, who will appreciate your contribution to the discussion. You may be invited to their houses for dinner or to attend their children’s plays or sporting events, all because you’re someone who has opinions on art rather than just the weather.

When you design your own home, decorating it with artwork that speaks to you will allow you to live in an environment that is more pleasing than if you’d chosen only by price or convenience.*

You’ll also be able to impress others with your knowledge of art. The people who find themselves at a loss when discussing movies with someone who knows what they’re talking about will turn to you for advice, and buy tickets to the movies you recommend.**
