I have been interested in art since I was a child. I remember when I was five I would sit for hours creating little drawings with crayons and watercolors. As I got older my love for art only grew and I began to explore the world of photography, sketching, drawing, painting, and stained glass.

This blog is about my journey as an artist and how my love for stained glass has developed into what it is today.

Stained glass windows are an often overlooked art form, yet at the same time are some of the most beautiful works of art in existence.

I have always had a passion for stained glass and have been working with it for over 15 years. Yet I have never seen anyone else who has published anything about the history of this art form and how it has developed. This is where my desire to write about my passion for stained glass came from.

The art of stained glass is one of the few fine arts which is not only practiced today but has actually increased in popularity through the years. The art of stained glass involves combining glass, lead, and sometimes other materials to form an artistic design or representation. Through innovative techniques, artists were able to combine colors resulting in a multi-colored piece of artwork.

Towards the end of the 19th century, stained glass was established as a major fine art form. It was during this period that some of the most famous artists in history began creating beautiful works of stained glass.

These pieces of art became so popular that they could be found on everything from churches and cathedrals to homes and public buildings. As stained glass evolved, new techniques were developed which allowed for more and more colors to be used on a single piece. This subsequently led to the Technicolor movement in film.

In this blog I will share my love for this art form from its humble beginnings to the present day. Follow me as I explore the world and chronicle my findings on this blog.”

Glimmerglass is a blog that I created to share my love of stained glass and to document the process of designing and building stained glass art. This site features information on how to create stained glass art, a gallery of my work, and links to other sites about this fascinating art form.

Tiffany Studios was an important center for the design and production of stained glass art in the late 19th century. Louis Comfort Tiffany began his career in stained glass early in his life when he created windows for his father’s church in Brooklyn, New York. By 1883, having established his own studio, he was already recognized as one of America’s foremost designers of color who experimented with ways to create richly colored windows. He used a variety of techniques including opalescent glass, iridescent glass, enamels, and acid-etched foils which he combined with lead came to create his works.

Louis Comfort Tiffany’s most notable creation is the interior of the Washington Memorial Chapel at Valley Forge National Historical Park. Hailed as “the most important American building constructed during the first half of the 20th century,” the chapel contains a stunning collection of over 140 windows by Louis Comfort Tiffany and many others who worked at Tiffany Studios including John LaFarge

The beauty of stained glass is that it can be totally unexpected. The colors can be stunning and the arrangement of the pieces can catch you off guard. Because each piece is cut out of a colored sheet of glass, there are no limits on what you can create.

There are so many different ways that stained glass artists can approach their work. Some will use only one color for all of the windows, while others will use a rainbow of colors and shapes. Whether you want a traditional design or something more modern, there is room for artistic expression in this art form.

Tinted glass was used to add privacy to windows, but stained glass was used to tell stories and shed light on the mysteries of religion. These days, many churches still choose to use stained glass in their designs. When you walk into a church that has beautifully crafted stained glass, it is easy to see why this art form has stayed popular for centuries.

Stained glass windows are a very old form of art. The first stained glass window was created in the 4th century, during the reign of Constantine I. So stained glass artwork is not brand new. However, this does not mean that the art form is outdated. In fact, the opposite is true – stained glass artwork has seen a recent revival in popularity.

A stained glass window is made by placing colored pieces of glass within a frame of lead cames and setting it into a wall or window. The pieces of colored glass can be cut to fit within a particular shape or pattern, or they can be placed randomly to create an abstract design, depending on the artist’s preference and vision.

Stained glass windows are often incorporated into buildings as decorative touches, but they also have practical purposes. They can be used to protect buildings from direct sunlight and heat, and they can also be used as mirrors to reflect light into dark rooms.

Tinted pieces of glass in a stained glass window allow for dramatic effects. Light that passes through different colors of glass in sequence creates different visual effects that go beyond what you would normally expect from using plain-colored pieces of glass in a window. The overall effect can be dazzling and captivating to behold.”
