Ever since I was a kid, I’ve loved paper cutting. When I learned the technique of paper cutting, at the age of 12, it soon became my passion. Since then I’ve been creating paper cuttings and working on them, trying to improve my skill in this art.

Paper cutting art is not the kind of thing that is really taught in school. There are no classes in it, and there is definitely no degree for it. Paper cutting artists learn by watching other artists, and trying things out for themselves.
Thing is, there aren’t that many other paper cutting artists around. So if you want to get better at it, you’re going to have to find someone who has done it for a while and can tell you how they did it. As far as I know, there are only two ways to do this:
1. Hang out at the International Folk Art Museum in New Mexico, and hope that you run into a paper cutting artist there.
2. Ask your friends if they know anyone who does paper cutting art who could give you some tips.”
When I first started paper cutting (years ago) I researched what other paper cutters were charging for their work. I was surprised to see that there was quite a range in pricing. Some artists were charging $10 and up, while others charged reasonable amounts, $25 – $75.
I asked a few of the “low price” artists what their reasoning was for charging less. Their answers varied: “I couldn’t charge more because my work is not as good as others.” “People won’t pay more because they are afraid to over-spend on something they’ve never heard of before.”
My own experience is that people aren’t afraid to spend money on something they’ve never heard of before. I remember when I first started doing this, people were always amazed and therefore willing to pay more for something they had never seen before. They would ask how much it cost and then happily pay the fair price.
As time went by, my prices increased with my skills; however, many people who had purchased from me in the past still only wanted to pay the low price. Some people didn’t buy from me anymore at all! The reasons given ranged from “you’re out-of-my-price-range” to “you’re just ripping everyone
