We have talked about the different kinds of art. Painting is one of them, but so are other things that do not involve paint.
We’ve also discussed how to create an art collection. One thing I keep hearing is that people want to start by buying good art, and then they think they will learn how to tell the good from the bad. That’s a great plan, but it doesn’t always work!
I would suggest that you start with something more simple: a map of the world as a piece of art. As we discussed earlier, there are many ways to make and display art. Maps are just one way of doing it. Here is what you need:
A frame- preferably one that does not have glass in it – because our map is going to be 3D and we don’t want any distortion from the glass!
A map- this can be bought or made yourself (it can even be hand drawn).
Sticks- We will use these to mount our map in the frame.
Glue- This should be acid free, meaning it won’t yellow over time and damage your map. There are many brands out there, so just pick one and make sure it says acid free on it somewhere! I personally like Tacky Gl
C.K. McClintock, the artist behind the blog Map Art , is a young man who graduated from UVA in 2011, and now lives in Richmond, Virginia where he works as a freelance artist and illustrator.
