In the past decade there has been a big shift in offices. More and more companies have decided that their employees’ health is a priority and that they should have the option to work from home, even if they don’t always do so.
With the increase of remote work has come a whole new way of working. People are finding new ways to make their workspace feel like home without having to go through the hassle of actually moving into a new apartment or house.
Here are some tips for creating your own cozy office on the road:
If you are an employee of a company, starting a business and working there, the office is your first impression. It is your first interaction with them, and it will affect your relationship with your colleagues. On the other hand, if you are an independent professional or freelancer, this space is where you will spend most of your time. After all, it is much easier to take a nap in your car than at home!
So why not make it as comfortable as possible?
Here are some tips to help you do that.
Personalize Your Office
Personalizing your office does not mean complete renovation which costs hundreds or thousands of dollars. It means making it feel like home for you. Colors: If you have to stare at the same four walls every day, then paint them something that makes you feel good! If you don’t like the idea of painting them, then change or add some pictures or posters on them. Filing cabinets and shelves: The same goes for these. You can change their color – paint them white for instance – or buy new ones that match the paint on the walls (paint samples are cheap!). Plant life: The lack of windows doesn’t mean you can’t have plants in your office! Get yourself a cactus plant or
This blog is about the interior design of offices, open spaces and other shared working environments. It is designed to help make those work environments feel more like home (for some) while also stimulating new ideas and solutions for others.
I love interior design, architecture and art and I find it fascinating how a designer or architect can use space to influence behavior. I hope my own business can benefit in some small way from the ideas presented here.
I am an entrepreneur with 26+ years in the financial services industry and have been self-employed for the last 10 years running my own boutique financial planning firm based in Charlotte, North Carolina. I began blogging about my office environment after meeting some very creative people online who inspired me to try new things in my own office space. My passion for renovation, a constant need to create beautiful spaces and a desire to share what I’ve learned has led me on this journey.
It is amazing what a few changes to your workspace can do for you! Whether it be our own office space or the offices we share with others, we spend so much time there that adding a little color, changing furniture placement or even just making sure everything is picked up can be an uplifting experience! When we spend more time at work we want to spend it
Since we spend more and more of our lives at work, it is vital that we feel comfortable when we’re there. An office can be home to one person, or a group of people. We’d like to think that having a room full of computers, monitors and other equipment doesn’t have to feel cold.
Tastes differ, but there are some basics for creating a warm and inviting workplace environment:
1) Make it comfortable
2) Make it look good
3) Make it functional
4) Keep it inspiring
5) Make your own rules.
A lot of business owners don’t pay enough attention to the comfort factor. This is really a shame if you’re trying to hire good employees who are going to stay with you for the long run. You can get away with this for a while, especially if you’re bringing in less-than-committed types, but sooner or later you’ll find that your organization is filled with employees who don’t fit well into the culture of your office. They’ll either quit or they’ll just be unhappy all the time. And neither one of those outcomes is what you want.”

The blog is very new and still under construction, but it is definitely worth exploring the website if you are looking for some fresh ideas on how to decorate your own workspace.
The company’s always evolving. It’s not the same place I started working at in September of 2012. And it’s not going to feel like my home forever either.
I’m not going to miss hearing people’s stories about why they work here, or even looking at their desks. But I would like to be able to keep coming back here long after I’ve left. I’m probably going to have to work on that myself, but maybe there are ways the company could help too!
A workspace is a place to do your work. It’s where you feel like you can do your best, and where you’ll want to keep coming back to. Some people prefer messy desks, some prefer clean ones. What matters is that it works for you, because the space will reflect your personality and become part of how people recognize you.
