How to make a carved frame for wood art:

Find the right piece of wood. This is the most important part. The best way to find the right piece of wood is to walk around outside and look at the trees. Find a tree that has some cool looking branches you want to carve. They don’t have to be thick as long as they have nice shapes.

Wood that has been sitting on the ground and rotting away is best because it softens after it sat in water or gets wet from rain, etc… I like to use willow for carving because it’s so easy to carve and it’s very light in color. Other types of wood I’ve used are maple, oak, and pine.

And then you need something to carve your design with. You can buy special tools for carving wood or you can use anything you already have in your home. I like using nail clippers because they’re small and sharp so you can get into tighter areas on your design.
