If you have a big enough wall, you don’t need to measure in from any specific point; just use your eye to align each edge of the top of the frame with each edge of the bottom of the frame.

Next, figure out which way is up for your picture. If there’s any question about it at all, turn it over (upside down for a landscape) and find out whether it looks good like that before you put nails in your wall.
