For a long time, I’ve been frustrated by the lack of information out there on how to frame art. There are some great resources on framing photos and prints, but little is written about framing art. It seems that everyone who wants to learn has to start from scratch.

The main purpose of this site is to provide a resource for others who want to learn about framing. I’ll be updating this site with useful articles and tips on how to frame your favorite pieces of art. 1) Determine how you will display the artwork before measuring for the frame. If it will hang on a wall, measure the height and width of the area where it will hang to determine the size of the frame needed. If it will stand on a shelf, measure the dimensions of the shelf to determine the size frame needed.

2) Select a frame with an opening slightly larger than the artwork size so that it can slide behind it easily. The frame should have at least one groove deep enough to hold craft wire or picture wire to tack in place; picture wire is easier to work with but craft wire is sturdier and holds better over time.

I recently had an opportunity to frame a piece of artwork for a friend who is just starting out with his own photography. He has the passion and drive, but not the tools or training.

I am writing this article to share my experiences and knowledge on framing art, and to help him and others like him achieve their goals of framing artwork for display.
