How to Follow African American Art: A blog about the history of African American art and how to learn more about it.

The main reason why I started this blog in early December, 2010, is that I was researching African American Art History and found almost nothing on the internet.

There are a great number of books on African American art, but few are focused on Art History as opposed to general social studies. The best book on the subject (in my opinion), Charles White’s “The Fire of Black Art” is out of print and hard to find. It is a topic that deserves its own online resource.

How to Follow African American Art is a blog about African American art and how to learn more about it. You’ll find information on art museums and galleries, and other resources that will help you understand the history of the African American art movement.

Tons of wonderful art has been created by people of color in all parts of the world. I’d like to share my passion for African American art with you. Please stop by again.

The first of these is the most obvious: the art from this period is great. It makes you want to live in a world where people are creating art like this. The second is that it is a commentary on everything from religion to life in the big city, from slavery to the common man. The first reason is that this was the time when African American artists started to move beyond the European traditions they worked within and create something more uniquely their own. During this period, they were able to express their own ideas and culture through their art.

It’s a time when cultural movements were being shared by blacks and whites alike. This was also a time when black artists’ work was appreciated by both blacks and whites — even though black artists had less success selling their work than white artists during this time.

The second reason is that everyone should know about how far we’ve come since then and how much things have changed for African American artists since then — for better or worse.*
