This is a how to draw step by step tutorials blog. It was born out of my own interest in drawing, and my frustration with a lack of good, free resources on the internet.
I have been drawing since I was a child, and have always enjoyed it as a form of relaxation. In recent years though, I have become acutely aware of how much I have forgotten, and how little I knew to begin with. My early years were spent learning from books, but now I find that these books are out of date, or not detailed enough for me. This prompted me to start researching tutorial websites – but again frustration set in, as many were not free or produced such low quality results that they were no use to me.
Eventually I decided that I would try my own hand at producing some tutorials, and see if they helped me pick up my drawing skills once more. Hopefully they will help you too!
I have been asked many times to give advice on learning to draw, so I decided to create this page which is the start of a page of step by step drawing tutorials. I will fill this page with plenty more tutorials in due course, including some more advanced ones so if you are looking for something specific, please check back often.

How to draw a circle:
Draw a curve that starts at about the middle of the bottom of the circle and ends at the top.
Then draw another curve from just below the first one, starting from the center and drawing to the right.
Connect these two curves by drawing a straight line horizontally between them, above the first curve.
Add small curves along the sides of this line. This will give you a circle.
Drawing is something all kids can be taught, but it doesn’t come naturally for all of them. In fact, some people can have a natural talent for art, while others never pick up on the skill. It’s not that they aren’t talented or smart; it’s just that drawing is not a skill that comes readily to everyone.
Trying to draw something using the information in an art book will usually lead to frustration and failure. So instead of trying to learn how to draw, figure out what you want to draw.
If you are trying to draw a realistic picture of something, you should look at photos and other examples of the object you want to draw. If you are creating something imaginary, think about how you want the drawing to look and work from there. Take your time with each step and try not to rush through it.
You don’t need any special materials to start drawing; anything can be used as long as it is within reach.
The most important thing about drawing is practice! You won’t get better unless you do it often.*
One of the things that can often slow us down is that we are too concerned with our works and how they will be perceived. This type of thinking can sometimes hold us back from creating what we want.
We need to learn how to let go and move forward. Being overly attached to your work or critical of it takes the fun out of it. Remember, it’s not a contest and no one but you really cares about the outcome. You can always go back and fix things later.
