Drawing Anime Eyes: Tips and Tricks

A blog on how you can draw Anime eyes.

Drawing Anime eyes can be a very tough job, especially if you are a beginner. The style of drawing Anime eyes is very different from the way you would draw regular cartoonish or realistic eyes.

The traditional Anime style involves drawing the iris and pupil in one solid color with no gradients. The color of the iris and pupil is usually changed depending on the mood or feeling of the character. For example, a character that is angry will have an eye with a red colored iris and pupil, while a happy character will have green iris and pupil.

There are a variety of methods for drawing anime eyes. The easiest way to draw them is to first draw the iris, then shade it in with the appropriate color, and then add the pupil. Although this method is quick, it lacks detail and realism.

Another method is to draw the entire eye in one go. This method works best if you’re using a pencil or very fine pen. Start by drawing a circle, then draw a semicircle above this. After doing this, draw in the eyelid and outline the iris and pupil. Using a fine pen, shade in the eye. This method gives you the most control over the size and shape of your eyes, but takes more time than simply shading in an iris.

Since the dawn of time, anime and manga fans have been struggling to learn how to draw those beautiful style of eyes. But, there’s always a problem when drawing them, they’re not symmetrical.

That’s where I come in. The purpose of this article is to teach you how to draw anime eyes that are both beautiful and symmetrical.

Many people will tell you that you can’t make anime eyes look truly symmetrical because of the nature of the eye, but I am here to tell you that this is not true! You can make them look almost perfectly symmetrical with a little bit of knowledge, practice and effort.

New to drawing anime? Then you’ve come to the right place! We’ll show you how to draw different kinds of anime eyes. You’ll learn how to draw pretty eyes, cute eyes, and even scary eyes.

Newp! I’m back. Sorry for being gone so long, I had a lot of things to do. So, today’s lesson will be on eyes (since they are the most important and common thing when drawing Anime). So first off, we’ll start with the iris…

So as you can see, there are 5 different shapes for the iris, which you can combine or make in one line (you’ll see how later) to make it look realistic. Now let’s go on to the pupil…

Now this part is even easier than the iris. You just draw two circles (one smaller than the other) and that’s all. I know it seems a little difficult but try practicing this on scratch paper until you get a feel for it.

So now that we have the basics down, let’s move on to shading. The first thing you need to do is decide whether your character is right-eyed or left-eyed (the eye closer to the viewer will be dominant). To tell which is which, look at an anime face straight on and notice which eye is larger. If the eye closest to you is larger then your character is right-eyed; if it’s smaller then they’re left-eyed.*
