The name zentangle comes from the word tangling which is what one does when creating this type of art. It is derived from the word mosaic as well. It consists of drawing structured patterns with repetitive designs using several different types of strokes called patterning and shading. The patterns consist of simple geometric shapes webbed together using repetitive patterns with no beginning or end. They are done in black ink only using only an eye dropper bottle filled with black ink to draw small dots or squiggles between the patterns.

To create a beautiful piece of art, you need the following materials: a pencil (you can use a mechanical one or traditional pencil), a white gel pen, an eraser, an eye dropper bottle filled with black ink (or India ink), a Zentangle tile, a sharpie marker and a few sketch books.*

The process begins by choosing the pattern you want to work on. Then you draw around it first in pencil to avoid any mistakes while filling it

The basic concept behind the Zentangle art is that you need to work with a pen or pencil on a large piece of paper. You have to draw the patterns in such a way that it creates an illusion of being a single design. This illusion is created by making sure that there are no gaps between different sections of the design.

We’ll use the simple Shaker Square as our project today. This design is great for beginners because it only uses two different patterns: The Dot (1) and The Line (2), as well as two shading patterns: The Circle (3) and The Cross (4). It’s also very effective when done in black pen on colored paper, so we’ll be using brown colored paper today.
