The Flamingo is one of the most unusual and colorful birds in the world. Usually, flamingos are pink, but occasionally a flamingo can be white or even red. The white flamingo is the rarest bird in the world. The red flamingos are found only in Mexico and there are just about 3000 of them.

First of all, it is important to know that flamingos are wading birds. They spend their time in shallow water where they feed on algae and small animals such as shrimp and insects. While feeding on algae, they use their long beaks to reach under rocks and logs where this green algae grows.

Flamingos live mainly in warmer regions of the world such as South America, Africa, Australia and New Zealand. In all these countries they live in saltwater lagoons, swamps or estuaries along with other kinds of waterfowl such as ducks and herons. Flamingos live together in colonies which usually number between 1000 to 2000 birds. These colonies consist mainly of young birds that have been born into the colony during the previous season. However, there are also some older birds present which have lost their original color due to continuous feeding on red tide algae which turn their plumage pinky-red.

The reason for this is that the flamingo lives in tropical areas around the world and is rarely found above the USA. In most of these areas, flamingos live in shallow waters where they feed on shrimps and mollusks. They can be found in such places as Mexico, Cuba and Columbia .

Flamingos are pink because of the beta carotene found in their food supply. Although they are large birds, they tend to fly only short distances. The wings of the flamingo are quite small and their legs are set back on their body which results in them walking with a curious waddle.

In ancient Egypt, the flamingo was considered sacred. The Egyptians believed it represented fire, air and water. The bird they called “the one who came from his mother as one solid piece”. Because of this belief, they also thought that the flamingo had no heart and therefore did not feel emotion but only observed humanity with curiosity.

Another interesting fact about flamingos is after mating the female lays her eggs but will not incubate them; instead she abandons them entirely to their father. After hatching, both parents
