Grayson Perry has been touring the world for the last two years to find out what makes art tick. Grayson Perry: The Art Club is back on tour with an exciting new programme of art workshops and talks for adults, children and families.

And what does Grayson Perry advise you to do with your own pictures? “You should put it up on canvas,” he says. “In fact, you should put it up on canvas even if you don’t like it or think you’re any good.”

The Grayson Perry Art Club is the place where creativity is celebrated and the world of art is explored in a relaxed and friendly environment, with a glass of wine or cup of coffee.

Grayson Perry’s own artwork is on display at each stop, along with that of selected artists he has chosen to exhibit alongside him.

The club tours internationally to a mix of new and established venues – museums, art centres, galleries and private spaces – in diverse locations including London, Liverpool, Amsterdam and New York.

The Grayson Perry Art Club tour is back for autumn 2016, with a new programme of events for the artist, Grayson Perry.

On Tuesday 3rd October 2016, the Grayson Perry Art Club will be opening its doors to welcome back all our artists, volunteers and visitors to the first of our tour locations: Belfast.

The club is a unique platform for debate around contemporary art. It brings together artists and art-lovers of all ages, from all walks of life; from schoolchildren to social workers; university students to pensioners. The club has been on tour since its inception in 2011, setting up in schools, community centres and public spaces across the country.

Grayson Perry’s Art Club is the largest of its kind. Over the last 15 years it has grown to an international phenomenon – with more than 300,000 members and branches located all over the world, including countries such as Australia, China, Japan, Brazil and South Africa.

Travelling from city to city, town to town, village to village for two weeks each year, the club offers free art activities and a chance to meet new people and make new friends in a relaxed and friendly environment.

The club’s activities are designed to be enjoyed by all – from school children and students to those who have never picked up a paintbrush before.

The club’s primary aim is for its members to explore their creativity through the medium of art. It aims to nurture creativity by providing opportunities for its members to make art together in a relaxed and friendly environment. The club also aims to give its members the tools they need in order to make art outside of the club too, should they so wish.

The first thing to say is that the Grayson Perry Art Club is a cultural phenomenon. It began in a pub, and this was appropriate because the artist Grayson Perry lives in a sort of parallel universe where he is regularly mistaken for a woman, and where he makes art about everything from shopping trolleys to transvestitism. And if you don’t get it, then you don’t get it.

This does not mean that what he does isn’t art, or that he doesn’t care about making art. It’s just that he cares about doing things like making pots out of old shopping trolleys and putting himself into fancy dress and making an epic film about Queen Victoria’s funeral (which featured him in drag). He does all this because he cares about the world around him and how it affects people’s lives. Even when he is doing something as simple as making pots, he is still asking questions like: “Where do we draw the line between high art and craft?”

There are people who care about such things, but they are not usually very famous or successful. Grayson Perry cares so much that sometimes he forgets to make his art look pretty. If you go to one of his exhibitions, you will see many pictures of heads on plinths. They
