Hi, my name is Jill. I’m a graphic designer and an artist. I love making big bold art for the walls of homes and offices.

My clients tell me they love having a one-of-a-kind piece of artwork that tells a story about their family or business. And they love how it brings life to a room.

I also love collaborating with clients to design something that doesn’t look mass produced. That’s why I offer custom designs–to make things personalized and special for you!

Here are some examples of what I can do:

_ A map of your state with all the places you’ve lived and visited

_ An aerial view of where you work, highlighting the area you spend most of your time

_ An abstract art piece with different colors and patterns representing your personality

_ A montage of pictures from your last vacation, arranged in a way that evokes the experience (my favorite!)

Switchboard Art is an original art concept that allows customers to create their own one-of-a-kind pieces by simply selecting a design and providing some basic information about themselves. Each piece is then carefully hand-crafted into a unique work of art using the customer’s provided information and introduced elements.

The key feature of Switchboard Art is that it is truly custom – no two pieces will ever be alike, because each one is created from scratch using your own information and preferences. Also, since the actual production of each piece is handled by a small team of highly skilled artists, you can be assured that there are no mass-produced components or assembly lines involved in the process.

We have a very talented team of artists who have been working with us for years, creating thousands of incredible designs and producing beautiful pieces for our customers. We also understand that sometimes you just want to tell someone a short message, so we will design some custom text blocks for you if you’d like to include those as well.

Like all great works of art, these pieces are sure to spark conversation and bring joy to everyone who sees them! Everyone will want one of these unique Switchboard Art creations!

When you think of art, do you think of paintings hanging on walls? If so, you’re in for a surprise. Switchboard Art (also known as Wiring Diagram Art or Telephone Cross-Connect Art) is a form of fine art consisting of detailed diagrams of telephone switchboards and switchboard operators.

This is probably the only time you’ll ever see someone’s job described as “fine” art! It all started in the 1930s with the invention of direct dial long distance service. Before then, operators handled every call, taking down messages and making connections manually. There was no such thing as “call waiting” or “caller ID.” In fact, there were no caller IDs at all in the 1930s! Switchboard operators were like a cross between receptionists and social secretaries. They knew everyone’s personal business, including who had just gotten married or divorced, and sometimes even who was about to get fired.

As technology advanced and manual switches were replaced by computers, companies began replacing human switchboard operators with machines. The number of operators began to decline dramatically, creating a market for this new kind of home decorating trend.

Reference Librarians are often asked to recommend interesting picture books. I am always pleased to do so, but lately I’ve been frustrated by the fact that there is no easy way to find these titles again. This is especially true with picture books for younger children on specific topics (such as Easter, or seasons).

That’s why I’m starting a Pinterest page called “switchboard art”. It will be a place for librarians and others to share their favorite picture books about specific topics.

I expect that this page will evolve into an online library of sorts, where people can not only add titles but also comment on them. If you have comments about this new idea, please let me know!

In the early 20th century, telephones were becoming popular in people’s homes. Most of them came with a switchboard–a board with rows of little hooks on it, each hook leading to one handset. If you wanted to talk with someone in another room, you picked up your handset, which rang the other person’s handset; they would pick up their handset, and you could talk to each other through the switchboard.

The switchboards had empty hooks labeled “F,” “B,” and “T.” In those days these letters were used as abbreviations for family members: F for father or mother, B for brother or sister, T for uncle or aunt.

Switchboards were often decorated by the users–with paper flowers or curtains or whatever else they had around. And when they got bored with those decorations, they could replace them with something different. The decorations became known as switchboard art.

Some of it was really beautiful. It has provided modern historians with important clues about what life was like at that time.
