Diamond art is a new form of art that uses natural diamonds to make full color, 3D images. These images are absolutely stunning to see and have the ability to capture the attention of anyone who sees them. What is so unique about diamond art is that it brings together high technology (diamonds) with high art (fine painting). Diamond art is created by first using a special type of diamond cutting tool to carve out a negative image on the surface of a rough diamond. After the image is carved out, the image is filled with paint and then sealed by a UV light to make it permanent. The final result is an outstanding 3D image that can’t be scratched or broken.

Diamond art truly captures the beauty of both diamonds and fine artwork. Diamonds are known for their brilliance and luster, and diamond art takes this quality to another level. The colors in diamond art appear to jump off the surface and add another dimension of beauty to the piece. Diamonds can be used to create just about anything you want and can range in size from small earrings to life-size sculptures.

Diamond art was created on a whim when I discovered my favourite store bought chocolates were not available in Australia. I decided I would create chocolate diamonds and share them with the world.

I had no idea what I was doing but it turned out to be fun and rewarding. My creations are inspired by nature’s brilliance and beauty, have been featured in numerous national and international publications, adorn luxury brands’ packaging, and have been used as props for movies and television shows.

To make them is an involved process which requires time, patience, care and precision. Each diamond is individually hand made by me in my Melbourne home studio. They are all made from real diamonds that are ethically sourced from the diamond district of Johannesburg South Africa.

The concept of using diamonds to shape or form into something is not new but this method has been used since past 5 years. This is also known as Diamond Origami or Diamond Paper Folding.

This origami was developed by Eiko Ishizawa who is an artist from Japan. He has been using various types of precious stones to make Origami art since 1989.

Diamonds are the hardest naturally occurring material on Earth and are used primarily for industrial applications such as cutting and polishing tools, drill bits, saw blades, grinding wheels and abrasive powder. Diamonds are also used in jewelry because of their brilliant luster (reflections) and extreme hardness. Diamonds have been discovered in alluvial deposits in the Ural Mountains, Russia; Rio Negro, Brazil; Arkansas, U.S.; and the Orange Free State, South Africa. The first diamond mines have been traced to ancient India where small diamonds were used for engraving tools.

The first European diamond mine was established in 1456 at Bulsan in southern India by a Portuguese merchant named Rafael Perestrello. Later diamond mines were established near the alluvial deposits of the Orange River in present day South Africa where huge diamonds were found that weighed several hundred carats apiece. As early as 1515 King Henry VIII sent a Venetian diamond merchant named Jean de la Valette to India to establish a diamond trade with the Mughal Emperor Babur which lasted for about 80 years until the English East India Company defeated the French supremacy over Indian commerce by defeating them in a war at sea in 1609 A.D.
