Cleaning out your closet, especially if you’ve lived in the same place for a while, can be pretty intense. You’ll find tons of things you forgot you had and other items that you never thought you would see again. The closet is a great place to store things that you no longer need, but it’s also a great place to store things that you might want to keep. As such, it’s important that your closet is organized in such a way that it’s easy to find what you’re looking for.

What do I mean by organized? It’s all about good “flow” — making sure that everything has its place so that when you need something, it’s easy to find.

Let me give an example. When I first moved into my apartment, I found myself digging through piles of clothes and shoes looking for something every single time I needed an outfit. It was frustrating!

I finally decided to organize my closet like this: -Hanging on the left side of my closet are all of my tops and dresses -Hanging on the right side of my closet are all of my bottoms -On the floor of my closet are shoes, bags and accessories

Pant hangers go on the right; skirt hangers go on the left

So, how did I do it? My tips are simple and you can read all about them and more in my new book, Closet Organization Tips. This is not a get rid of everything, buy new stuff book. It is a guide to help you figure out what to keep, where to store it, and what ways there are to get organized.

The first step was the most challenging for me. I am a list maker so I made a list of what I had in the closet. A lot of things do not belong in the closet anyway but that’s another story. Once I had my list I started sorting through the items on the floor. The clothes that needed to be hung up got hung up and the rest got folded. Next came the shoes and bags but those have their own problems which will have to be addressed at another time.

The food closet was next on the agenda because we were running out of room in there. That part was easy because it was mostly nonperishables like paper towels, cleaning supplies, pet food and more plastic storage containers than you could shake a stick at!

I then tackled the kitchen where I actually found some space! Several large plastic crates were removed from under my sink and pantry which freed up much

Hello, my name is Janet and I’m a closet organizer. Actually, that’s not true; my name is Janet and I’m a professional closet organizer. Actually, that’s not true either; it turns out the only difference between being a closet organizer and being a professional closet organizer is that with the former you’re working on your own stuff and with the latter you’re working on someone else’s stuff.

It’s still true that I’m Janet, though. And there’s still one more thing to add: I’m also a blogger. But let me back up for a moment and explain where I’m coming from.

My first really big job was helping David get organized. He had an enormous office with a wall of file cabinets (remember those?) and two six-foot tall bookshelves filled with banking manuals and other useless paper. We spent the better part of a month going through all of it piece by piece. I learned some things in the process:

You can even use the same color to paint the walls and trim to create a cohesive look. If your bathroom has a pedestal sink, then have it stand out by painting it a contrasting color. If you have a black and white checkered floor, incorporate this pattern into the walls or ceiling of your bathroom as well. Add a little bit of sparkle with a chandelier or some foil mirrors.

The best part about black and white bathrooms is that they go with any style or decorating theme. A black and white bathroom is perfect for those who want modern elegance, but still want to add their own personal touches. Black and white is maintenance friendly, since you don’t have to worry about discoloration from water damage like you would in a colored bathroom. The colors are bold enough to stand out, but subtle enough to blend well with any other colors you choose for accessories or furniture.

Black and white is an elegant combination that will make your bathroom look chic and stylish. Whether you choose silver or gold fixtures, your bathroom will be sure to impress anyone who steps inside!

I’m not talking about a tiny closet that you can practically sit in. The average American home has more than twice as much storage space as the average European home, and it’s half empty.
