This blog is a business site. It’s about how to conduct silk business.
It’s about a lot of other things too, and it’s about some things that aren’t relevant to silk business. But the site is not associated with any company or group. I’m writing this blog myself, as an independent – not a Silk Merchant Association representative or any other kind of representative of anyone or anything but me.
The main reason for this is that I have opinions, and if I expressed them in the name of an organization, people would think those opinions are coming from the organization. So for instance if I say “we think” about something, you’ll naturally assume it means “the association thinks.” But really it just means “I think.”
So I’m doing this on my own, without any organization sponsoring me. Because if I did it as part of an organization, there’d be all kinds of constraints on what I could say – and also because I am interested in selling silk, and so I want to be talking directly to the people who are most likely to want to buy silk. And that’s you.
A secondary reason is that in order to sell you stuff, it helps me understand what you’re looking for when you buy silk.

We know a lot about the art of selling silk. The reason is that we have been doing it for over one hundred years.
We are certified by the City of Florence to sell Italian Silk. We have been awarded this right and certificate by the Chamber of Commerce.
We are recommended by the Academy of Art in Florence, Italy for our superior knowledge of silk.
However, we are not just an art store but rather an actual silk merchant. We directly source from Italy and China, thus cutting out all middlemen or distributors and being able to offer you prices much lower than any other silk store in NYC.
Tailoring is also our expertise; we will measure you for custom-made suits using only the best fabrics: Cashmere and Silk, with a variety of patterns and designs to choose from. Our staff is very well educated in Italy’s most prestigious fashion schools, such as Pitti Uomo, Polimoda and Istituto Marangoni.
A custom-made suit is an investment that will last a lifetime!

Silk is a fabric made from the fibers of the silkworm, an insect that feeds on mulberry leaves. It is a natural protein fiber, some forms of which can be woven into textiles. The best-known type of silk is obtained from the cocoons of the larvae of the mulberry silkworm Bombyx mori reared in captivity (sericulture).
Silk was also used to produce clothing (witness the silk robes of the Chinese emperors) and traditional Chinese and Korean robes called qipaos, for example. Silk has also been used to make art and architecture, such as when Vasari built the dome of St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome decorated in part with silver leaf and colored silk threads.
Silk is light, strong, lustrous and soft — as well as naturally occurring, making it an ancient fabric that has become a modern trend. There is nothing quite like silk for comfort and luxury.
The major types of silk include: sericulture (the cultivation of silkworms to produce raw silk), metallurgy (the production of metallic silk), and weaving (the creation of fabrics from yarn).
Silk is produced by several insects but primarily by the larvae of insects belonging to the order Lepidoptera
