Banksy is very secretive about his life, and he has released few details about himself. He is presumed to be a man named Robert Banks, born in 1974 in Bristol, England. The name “Banksy” was a nickname he had given himself as a graffiti artist. His satirical street art and subversive epigrams combine dark humour with graffiti done in a distinctive stenciling technique. Banksy’s works of political and social commentary have been featured on streets, walls, and bridges of cities throughout the world.

A number of Banksy’s works have been destroyed or defaced by local authorities and rival artists.[5] A number of them have been sold at auction for six-figure sums.

In 2002 Banksy was invited to decorate the hostel in which he had lived when he first came to London from Bristol.[11] The pub was demolished soon after in 2003 to make way for luxury flats.[12][13] In 2004, Banksy painted on the Israeli West Bank barrier wall, including an image of a ladder going up the wall, which could be interpreted as a metaphor for peace between Israel and Palestine. Various other works by him can be found in Bethlehem.[14]

In 2005 his work appeared in three major shows: Turf

Banksy is one of the most prolific and popular artists of his generation. His works have been featured in galleries and exhibitions around the world, including America, Australia, Japan, Canada and Europe.

In 2008, he was nominated for the Turner Prize for his Anne Frank House rendition which sold at auction for over $1 million. In 2009, Banksy’s piece Slave Labour (Bunting Boy) sold for over $1.87 million at Sotheby’s London Contemporary Art Evening Auction, setting a new record price for any work by the artist.

In 2012, Banksy appointed Pest Control to handle all sale transactions. All Banksy pieces are authenticated by Pest Control and come with a COA (certificate of authenticity).

His paintings evoke different interpretations. They can be seen as social commentary or just simple jokes.

Banksy sells his own works through an online store on his website under the guise of art dealers from Los Angeles and Bristol, UK. This seller sells original signed works designed by Banksy himself.”

Banksy, who is a graffiti artist, gained worldwide fame for his street art and has been attributed as the one of the most influential artists in recent history. Banksy has been able to bring art into the mainstream and influence popular culture, while keeping his identity anonymous. Recent years have seen an increase of auction prices for Banksy’s work, but no one knows who he is or where he comes from.

The value of Banksy’s original pieces have become extremely high, with “Keep It Spotless” selling for £208,000 at Bonhams in London. Unauthorised reproductions of these pieces are also becoming more prominent in today’s society and although they do not sell for nearly as much money as the originals do, they still sell for quite a bit.

“Keep It Spotless”, which was originally painted on a wall in Wood Green, London by Banksy in 2006, was reproduced on a canvas and sold online through Obeygiant.com for $60 USD. This reproduction was created by an anonymous artist named ‘OS GEMEOS’ from Brazil and it differed slightly from the original piece by Banksy in that it included one additional figure within the composition.

Banksy himself has said that he supports people who reproduce

Banksy’s work was first noticed by the public when he started doing graffiti art on public buildings. He still does this, but he has moved on to other things as well. He became famous because his art is seen in public places. The fact that he makes his living by doing it is not very well known, though.

His art comes in two forms: things that you can walk past and see, and things that you have to go to a museum or a gallery to see. The first kind are generally more interesting, so I will concentrate on them here.

What Banksy does is write or draw something on a wall and leave it there. That’s not what graffiti artists usually do; they go around making their mark wherever they can, and try to get away before the police arrive. Banksy doesn’t do this for two reasons:

First, Banksy wants his work to be seen; he doesn’t want it destroyed before everyone has had a chance to see it.

Second—and this is the one that distinguishes him from most graffiti artists—Banksy paints only when he has found a place where he knows no one will come along and paint over his work immediately.

That second point is worth paying attention to. It means that
