Art of Living is a social welfare organization, founded by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar in 1981. It aims to help people by offering practical guidance in the form of meditation and breathing exercises to live life to the fullest, thus creating a stress-free environment for themselves and those around them.

Art of living is divided into 3 sections:

1.Meditation: You can reduce your Mental Stress with meditation.

2.Yoga: You can reduce your Physical Stress with yoga.

3.Vedic Culture: You can reduce your Environmental Stress with Vedic Culture.

Art of Living Foundation has spread its teachings across 120 countries and has touched the lives of more than 150 million people, including celebrities like former US president Bill Clinton, Hollywood actress Meg Ryan and Australian cricketer Brett Lee.

The art of living is more like the art of theater than it is like the art of physics. In theater, if you want to make an audience laugh, you don’t explain to them why something is funny. You simply present them with something that is sufficiently amusing, and they will laugh. In the same way, if you want to live a life of fulfillment and joy and engagement, there are certain basic things you need to do. You can’t just explain those things rationally; you have to show them in action, by allowing yourself to be engaged and fulfilled now.

Your life will be more fulfilling if you take certain risks. The problem is that risk-taking is not something you can do on purpose. It’s something you have to stop worrying about and do without thinking, or it doesn’t work. Maybe that’s why we’re taught to aspire to lives of security; we’re told we should “take risks,” but when we try, we think too much about whether the risks are worth taking, and so we don’t take them after all.

Our lives are like rivers. We need to find a way to flow smoothly through them.

It would be foolish to try to live without ever being hurt, or having our hearts broken, or losing someone we love. And it would be impossible.

I think the poets and mystics who say that we should just accept reality, that pain is an illusion, do not understand the nature of reality. But there is some truth in what they say. Reality is a lot more painful than it needs to be.

The point of life is not to suffer. It’s not even to live forever– because someday your heart will stop beating, no matter what you do. The point of life is to enjoy it as much as you can along the way.

Which means finding ways that work for you to let your heart sing and dance and be happy, even though sometimes it will ache– because if you’re lucky, there will be times when it aches so badly that you want to die…

But you don’t have to let yourself be crippled by these things. You don’t have to make everything either a tragedy or a farce; you can find ways that work for you to feel peaceful even when terrible things happen and you feel like your heart is breaking

In order to inspire people to do things, you need to understand what motivates them. What goes into the “rewards” in the “carrot and stick” metaphor?

The research literature gives some insight. In one survey, when people were asked how much they would pay to be a millionaire, the average response was $2.8 million. When they were asked how much they would have to be paid to give up their chance of being a millionaire, the average response was $10.8 million.
